Today’s Poser

Why do Democrat-run cities and states generally have a lower quality of life — more crime, higher taxes, more corruption, rampant homelessness, voter fraud, poorer sanitation, wildfires, poor elementary education, crumbling infrastructure, higher unemployment and rioting? Is it because of their politics or are they just piss-poor managers?

Afterthought: Or both?!

Back to Basics

What does Make America Great Again mean? To me, this means for America to restore itself and get back to basics ... those elements that allowed us to breath free air and exhale free speech. I think most Americans would love to have the following restored to our shores:

- Teaching our children the three-Rs instead of political pap

- Not living beyond our means

- Restoring the family as the bedrock of our society

- Re-establishing morality ... best through religions

- Producing essential goods inside of our country

- Revering our proud heritage and history

- Reaching out to help other nations in need

- Working hard and being productive

- Restoring our beautiful infrastructure

- Standing up for freedom as a model to the world

- Being patriotic and loving our country

- Being positive ... and not being frozen with fear

Pay Attention

There are a few things that I wish President Trump and the Republican Party would pay more attention to. Yes, I realize that they already have a full plate with trade, immigration, North Korea, the next election, Iran, continued economic growth, the swing to Socialism, Venezuela, Russian mischief, etc.  And I suppose that we might cut Trump some slack on the following  issues. Nevertheless, it would be helpful if these problems were at least mentioned more as being solutioned in our future:

- Our continued deficit spending is continuing to drive up our national debt. We need to see some real moves by Trump and Co. to control this outflow. Some bipartisan support would also be nice.

- There really is a potentially explosive issue in the wide wealth disparity that exists between the classes in America. Although solutions to this problem run counter to the gut instincts of many conservatives, the eventual consequences of this disparity could create a societal rupture with serious consequences. I have made some suggestions along this line ... see: Me a Liberal?

- Fixing our infrastructure has a difficult path when America is running such huge deficits. But, this is an issue that Trump did identify when running for office ... and I believe he needs to fund a way to show some progress on this front.

- The United States finds itself hobbled by foreign entanglements ... most of them legacies from previous administrations. Clearly fixing these conundrums cannot be remedied all at once. But it would be nice if a few of these difficult problems ... Cuba, Afghanistan, Turkey, Syria, Qatar, Philippines, etc. ... could be normalized.

So, on top of everything Trump is accomplishing, I want more. And I do believe that, if Trump is re-elected, these concerns have to be addressed.

Bitter Medicine

Prior to November, 2016 this country had many maladies -- surging illegal immigration, a sluggish economy, hugely unbalanced trade, rogue nations threatening nuclear war, a crumbling infrastructure, a drug crisis and a partisan bureaucracy that refused to recognize these problems ... in fact was actively working in many cases to make them worse. The American people saw how sick their nation was and over 63 million of them opted for a promised  remedy, Donald Trump.

Now Donald Trump was the medicine ... although he recognized these diseases and swore to fix them ... he was foul tasting --  serial  brashly insulting, of loose morals, funny looking vainglorious and prone to exaggeration. Nevertheless many American were willing to swallow this bitter medicine if it meant that their country would be cured ... made great again if you will.

But many Americans were not so willing to go along with this cure. You know who they are ... they call themselves the Resistance.  Although they may have sensed some of our ailments, they wanted the medicine to taste like strawberry ice cream. It doesn't work that way people. If we are going to survive and prosper, we need to purge ourselves of the toxins that have accumulated over the last half century. Like grown-ups, we need to take our bitter medicine.

Obummer's Legacy

Obummer may not be the worst president in American history, but he still has six more months to sew up the title. He promised us hope and change ... and he certainly changed most things for the worse ... to the point where many of us are willing to take a flyer on a loud-mouth self promoter who just might repair enough things to save our nation's bacon. To reprise Obummer's last 7 1/2 years, here is the legacy he has left us with:

- More than a doubling of our national debt to an unsustainable level

- Race relations at an all-time low

- Corruption tainting almost every cabinet department

- Growing income inequality squeezing the middle class

- Urban crime rates back on the rise

- Economic and wage growth in the toilet

- Negative balance of payment at an all-time high

- Number of people dropping out of the workforce at an all-time high

- Swarms of illegal immigrants from Latin America countries

- An open door policy for unvetted Muslim immigrants

- A doubling of families receiving food stamps

- Zero tax reform

- Zero entitlement reform

- Huge increase in burdensome government regulations

- A gutting of our military

- Disastrous remaking of our health-care system

- The Middle East in smoking ruins

- Much more belligerent Russia, China, North Korea and Iran

- An alienated and abandoned Israel

- Deteriorating national infrastructure

- Serious loss of our international hegemony

And Hellery Clinton has promised to continue us down Obummer's primrose path!

Anti-Big Bird

The Republicans' anti-abortion stance has now wrapped this party even further around the axel ... and this should cause them to lose the 2016 presidential election. Their denouncing of Planned Parenthood's selling of baby body parts has clearly inspired Robert L. Dear to shoot up the Planned Parenthood's clinic in Colorado Springs ... killing three, wounding nine and casting a pall on this altruistic national provider of women's health care ... and forcing this fine organization to have to justify these widely-needed services ... see: Daily Kos Story.

Clearly every Republican candidate for president has jumped on the anti-Planned Parenthood bandwagon as a result of those doctored interview tapes besmirching these fine clinic people. This places all of these Republican turkeys on the wrong side of this history and shows that they are soldiers in the war on women. They thus deserve to be denounced and voted against.

And Republicans are also obviously anti-blacks, anti-gays, anti-transgender, anti-marijuana, anti-unions, anti-immigrants, anti-disabled people, anti-infrastructure, anti-poor people, anti-gun control, anti-socialism, anti-Hispanics, anti-middle class, anti-global warming, anti-Native Americans, anti-senior citizens, anti-Muslims, anti-women, anti-media, and anti-Big Bird. (Did I forget any?) Are these not enough reasons to pull the lever for Hillary?

No Trump

Multi-billionaire Donald Trump again announced for the presidency yesterday and threw some red meat to the assembled crowd ... saying for one thing that he would build a wall on our southern border and make Mexico pay for it!. The Donald certainly doesn't lack for ego ... and this is the major off-putting aspect of his personality ... see: Daily Mail Article and Video. Surely Trump might do, as president, many of the things that need doing ... reasserting America's place on the world stage ... restoring our infrastructure ... bringing the American fiscal budget more in balance ... getting our economy moving (even promising 4% annual GDP growth) ... and making this country great again.

And, after eight years of lackluster rule by his current doppelganger, the American voter might be ready for such an offbeat solution ... even radio host Howie Carr here in Boston is rooting for The Donald. However, I somehow feel that Trump is in this race more for the ride and is unlikely to move the masses of the voting public to his side. I could be wrong. I've been wrong before ... predicting Ronald Reagan had no chance. But, if Donald Trump is the Republican nominee ... despite his already trashing of some of his Republican opponents ... I strongly suspect that enough opposition research will come out on him as to sink the very slim chance that he might have. He has lived a very fast and loose life after all.

But then again so has Hillary
