How Dems Can Win

Uncle Joe Biden has explained why he wants to be president — so Trump isn’t ... hardly a winning strategy. The other Democrats are falling all over each other to give away taxpayer money by the boatload ... which would sink us far further into debt ...  from which we likely could not possibly recover ... doubling down on globalism, open borders, free college, free healthcare ... even for illegal aliens, a wealth tax, capitulation to China and the EU on trade, $1,000 per month to everyone, and on and on. None of these generous voter bribes ultimately are winning strategies.

But I think I do know what might work to defeat Trump at the polls. To win, one personable Democrat need only do the following:

- Forget all the giveaways. Agree to carry on with every policy and action that Trump has taken so far ... on trade, on tax cuts, on rebuilding our military, on regulation reductions, on avoiding foreign entanglements, on Israel, on asking our allies to step up to their responsibilities, on North Korea, on immigration reform, on global warming, on restoring US manufacturing, on Iran, etc. ... on everything Trump stands for.

- Sand off most of Trump’s annoying rough edges ... his insults, his womanizing, much of his Tweeting, his braggadocios, his exaggerations (aka,”lies”), his combative personality ... but keep his patriotism. And then better communicate to the American people ... like a statesman and not a TV reality-show personality.

Do all this, male or female Dem candidate, and and you can’t lose ... in fact, you might win all 50 states.

Tax Cuts

There is a lot of misunderstanding regarding Trump’s 2018 tax cuts. Polls say that only 17% of Americans believe that they got a tax cut whereas our IRS says that the actual number is 66%. My own daughter was doubtful that she got a cut because her refund wasn’t as large as before ... forgetting the fact that her tax withholdings throughout the year were smaller. When we went through the numbers together she was surprised at the size of her tax savings.

The media and demagogic Dems have played up the fact that it was corporations and the rich that got the majority of these benefits. Yes, corporations generally did benefit ... which is why the afterburners are on in our economy and the stock market is way up ... benefiting many retirement accounts. But, it is not true that, in general, the wealthy made out like bandits.

Let me explain. The new tax law had two zingers for many plutocrats — mortgage interest payment deductions were capped on loans of $750,000 AND real estate, state and local taxes were limited to a total of $10,000 if itemized. This latter construction meant that high-income people in high-tax states like New York, New Jersey, California, Connecticut, etc. really were punished in the itemized deductions column ... which generally meant that they ended up in that 34% of individuals who payed higher taxes.

Yes, the super-wealthy who could hire tax attorneys may have stopped some of this bleeding but, in general, it was the blue-state six-figure-income earners with big mortgages who payed more, and in many cases, much more income taxes last year.

QED.

Reverse Psychology

Rush Limbaugh pointed out something today that is so obvious that it is a wonder that we haven’t noted it before ... viz, whatever Trump is for, Democrats are against ... and whatever Trump is against, Democrats are for. This used to be jokingly how a parent could control an unruly child ... by using reverse psychology. “Don’t you eat that spinach!” “Please make sure you leave your room a mess.” And so forth.

So ...

If Trump wants to control immigration with a wall, Dems campaign for open borders.

If Trump wants better relations with Russia, Dems do a u-turn from their traditional fifth-column-ism and accuse him of being a Putin “cock holster.”

Dems are suddenly concerned with Trump’s national deficits after eight years of their own fire-hose spending.

Because of tax cuts, Trump’s economic miracle is just a continuation of Obama’s recovery.

Trump’s pointing out how many times reporters misrepresent the facts (“fake news”) is an attack on the First Amendment ... a rare Dem defense of same.

Since a few conservative states are placing restrictions on abortions, liberal states now are cheering for infanticide laws.

Given this cultural immaturity, maybe next year Trump should endorse whomever the Dems nominate for president ... to insure his re-election?

Interesting Stat

In President Obama's 8 years in office Median Household Income rose a total of  0.3% ... over  8 years! However, in President Trump's first 18 months in office, Median Household Income has risen 4.0%! See: Investors Business Daily. I wonder why we don't see this statistic on the alphabet TV networks? Will this, plus the tax cuts, plus record low unemployment, plus a soaring stock market, plus very high consumer confidence  ... will  they ever make a difference in the November midterms? My guess is that they will ... independent of Mueller's IEDs.

Headwinds

Despite dire predictions, the US stock market is up over 38% since Trump was elected president. However, there are now serious headwinds that likely will keep the breaks on further dramatic advances in equities. They are:

- The Federal Reserve's easy money policy (Quantitative Easing) has stopped. In fact the Fed is well into the process of reducing its balance sheet by about 3.5 trillion dollars. This means that this much liquidity is being removed from our economy.

-Yes, Trump's fiscal measures (tax and regulation reform, trade terms, infrastructure spending) have boosted our economy and corporate earnings. But price-earnings ratios in the stock market are still above historic averages.

- The geo-political risks of Iran and North Korea still pose a dire risk to the world order and stock markets.

- The Fed is on track to raise interest rates multiple time both this year and next. Higher interest rates increase the discount that must be applied to corporate earnings.

- Robert Mueller's team of crack partisan investigators seem hell-bent on taking Trump down. This is a pall on his ability to keep things moving forward.

- Current trade negotiations with China and NAFTA could easily result is trade wars that would take at least a short-term to the US economy.

So, will the stock market make dramatic new highs despite these many headwinds? The odds seem against it. But then Trump has a way of defying the odds.

Imagine

John Lennon wrote a hymn to a perfect world where peace prevailed  and there were no borders defining countries ... see: Imagine lyrics. Clearly, Lennon's vision of utopia must have had some influence on world politics in the years that followed ... particularly in the European Union.

Fast forward some fifty years to the presidential election of 2016 and let's do some more imagining. Can we picture what our country would be like if Hillary Rodham Clinton had been elected? Who would likely be the primary players in her administration? Ben Rhodes? Susan Rice? Jonathan Gruber? James Comey? Sidney Blumenthal? John Brennan? John Kerry? Donna Brazile? John Podesta? James Clapper, Cheryl Mills? Maybe even Bill Clinton himself?

Imagine what the Supreme Court would look like? The FBI? The Department of Justice? The IRS? The EPA? The State Department? The Defense Department? Our representative to the UN? The regulation environment? Even the Clinton Foundation and all its tentacles might still exist ... as might the ISIS caliphate?

We would still be bending over for the environmentalists in the Paris Accord ... or maybe going even further. There would be no tax cuts or a rollback of the Obamacare individual mandate. We would still be in the TPP (no matter what Hillary said during her campaign). We would be even further along toward true open borders and unlimited immigration from third world countries. Jerusalem would not be recognized as the capital of Israel. Economic growth would still be anemic along with the stock market.

There would have been no exposure of all the (illegal?) Democrat shenanigans that took place during the presidential campaign. We would likely have a Democrat Senate and maybe even the House. North Korea and China would still have us kowtowed. Companies would not be bringing their factories back onshore. And many more positive developments would not have occurred.

We would be living in even more of a dystopia than Barack Obama saddled us with. Maybe Ted Nugent should pen a new version of "Imagine?"
