There is a whole lot of hate directed at President Trump ... and, when one tries to peer behind this animus, one does not find rationality ... one finds only gut-level rancor. Asking for a list of reasons for this hatred produces: “he’s a serial liar,” “he demands loyalty above all else,”  “he is totalitarian,” “he is overweight,” “he is a racist,” “he is a bully,” and so forth ... lots and lots of ad hominems.

Most of the substantive criticisms directed at the Donald ... “he colluded with Russia,” “he attacks freedom of the press,” “he tried to bribe the Ukraine into sliming a political opponent,” etc. have not been proven or do not resonate throughout America. This, of course, drives the spittle-flecked Trump haters even more nutso.

It would seem to this observer that the more rabid becomes the haters’ hate, the more Trump supporters are annoyed by this irrational animosity and support the Orangeman even more.

The Resisters’ strategy to get rid of Trump is not working ... a circumstance they refuse to recognize. They believe if just John Bolton were to testify ... or if Zelensky were to say he felt pressured to investigate Biden ... then Trump’s support will collapse ... and our country will return to the good old ways.

Fat chance!

Donald Trump is an impulsive, braggadocios, lecherous exaggerator who, despite an almost universally hostile media, a corrupt Deep State and a spittle-flecked Resistance; is clearly doing more for the betterment of his country than any U.S. president in the last 30 years. -- Anon.

I can  think of no better word ... much of this country is experiencing paroxysms of irrational hysteria  over who we are and where we are going. All because Donald Trump has identified and given voice to the unmet cravings of hundreds of millions of Americans. These masses have felt controlled and manipulated by alien forces -- the media, the Washington establishment, the Chamber of Commerce, NAFTA, Wall Street, Hollywood, the UN, George Soros, the environmentalists, professional sports, higher education, the WTO, the tech giants, the Davos poobahs --- and they don't like it ... so they elected Trump.

Ironically enough, these paroxysms are occurring more to preserve these desmal institutions than those wishing their destruction. Donald Trump is the one rethinking and reshaping the world more to their liking. And be not confused ... those that Trump represents are a huge number and growing ... not as sophisticated and vocal and violent as the Resistance or Robert Mueller ... but much bigger ... that "silent majority' of days past.  And now that they have a champion in Trump, they feel that they are being heard ... and they really like it. Their muzzle is off ... so be careful those of you who want them gone.

You have a dangerous task ... one that can only be won by the abrogation of our Constitution. That would truly be the end.

Bitter Medicine

Prior to November, 2016 this country had many maladies -- surging illegal immigration, a sluggish economy, hugely unbalanced trade, rogue nations threatening nuclear war, a crumbling infrastructure, a drug crisis and a partisan bureaucracy that refused to recognize these problems ... in fact was actively working in many cases to make them worse. The American people saw how sick their nation was and over 63 million of them opted for a promised  remedy, Donald Trump.

Now Donald Trump was the medicine ... although he recognized these diseases and swore to fix them ... he was foul tasting --  serial  brashly insulting, of loose morals, funny looking vainglorious and prone to exaggeration. Nevertheless many American were willing to swallow this bitter medicine if it meant that their country would be cured ... made great again if you will.

But many Americans were not so willing to go along with this cure. You know who they are ... they call themselves the Resistance.  Although they may have sensed some of our ailments, they wanted the medicine to taste like strawberry ice cream. It doesn't work that way people. If we are going to survive and prosper, we need to purge ourselves of the toxins that have accumulated over the last half century. Like grown-ups, we need to take our bitter medicine.

David vs. Goliath

Donald Trump is in an epic struggle with the establishment media and much of our elite society. He has vowed to "drain the swamp" in Washington and the swamp seems equally dedicated to draining him. This is a cage match where there can only be one winner and, considering the odds, this winner is unlikely to be Trump. Yes, Trump does have huge chunks of middle America on his side, but his enemies are targeting various pockets of his supporters by slow-walking his campaign commitments ... and concocting devious narratives to turn them against him.

And they are quite likely to succeed because of their sheer numbers and the ferocity of their attacks. It is David vs. Goliath... and  David's only effective weapon is his Twitter account. And even there, Trump's aim is sometimes errant. So my realistic expectation is that Trump's sizable opposition will eventually grind him down and he will leave the White House a beaten man.

But what if he wins? What if David fells the giant Goliath? This is almost unthinkable, but what if he does? What might be the consequences? Here are some thoughts:

- Online media might then dominate the news business. Some cable news channels (CNN) might disappear ... but most will surely be eclipsed.

- Our traditional two party system (some might claim it's a one-party system)  might expand into three or even four contenders. Trump, like Teddy Roosevelt, might be the father of one of these newbies.

- Hollywood will start making some pro-conservative movies.

- Most politicians will take to Twitter (or its equivalent) to communicate directly with their public.

- The "resistance" will go underground ... hoping to reemerge at some later date.

- Trump might eventually find his way onto Mt. Rushmore. Gasp!

- America will be great again ... at least for a while.

Deep State

In an effort to keep you, dear reader, (and me) current with the rapidly changing political vernacular, I bring to you the term "deep state" ... an ominous description of those Obama holdovers still within the administration and who are actively working against Trump and his agenda ... see: Breitbart/WSJ Story. I have previously referred in a blog to this dangerous development as the "resistance" ... see: The Resistance ... but now this more descriptive pejorative has taken over.

I say that this is a dangerous development mainly because of its apparent size and scope ... reaching well into our intelligence community. And now that this cabal has taken the scalp of General Flynn, I am confident that they will be even more emboldened. I wish I could identify the players in this intrigue, but my spider senses tell me that former CIA chief, John Brennan's loyalists might be a good part of this Deep State. The new CIA Director, Mike Pompeo certainly has his swamp-clearing work cut out for him. And I expect plenty more subterfuge directed at Trump before all the alligators have been eliminated.
