Today’s Poser

Why do Democrat-run cities and states generally have a lower quality of life — more crime, higher taxes, more corruption, rampant homelessness, voter fraud, poorer sanitation, wildfires, poor elementary education, crumbling infrastructure, higher unemployment and rioting? Is it because of their politics or are they just piss-poor managers?

Afterthought: Or both?!

Australian Bushfires

The bushfires in Australia are devastating and may be unprecedented in size ... but they have happened many times before ... see: The Guardian Article. According to this article this year’s fires are unprecedented in that they are projected to be much larger over the next two months than the total devastation that occurred in  the mid-1970s.

And, of course, the climate alarmists are pointing to these bushfires as evidence of climate change ... while others are blaming the Australian government of mismanagement of the normal actions needed to be taken to anticipate this oft-repeated scourge. The above chart suggests that these government critics may have a point in that ... as the area of prescribed burns has gone done in Australia, the area of wildfires has gone up.

Is this an example, like in nutty California, of government inaction designed to prove a political point? Nah! ... politicians would never be that callous ...

Deflection

The Democrats are masters at deflection. All these California wildfires are not due to forest mismanagement on the part of these woke Libs. They are caused by that ogre “climate change” which, in turn, is Trump’s fault for pulling out of that Paris climate fraud.

Increased crime rates in many cities around the country are not due to open borders and sanctuary-city policies.  They are caused by Trump’s xenophobia and his racism.

Trump was involved in Russian collusion to win against Hillary ... when just the opposite was true. This trope is classic deflection or also known as transference by the shrinks — accusing me of doing what you, in fact, are doing.

I actually am surprised that the Dems haven’t started to make this same case — Trump is the true deflector ... and his investigation into all the intelligence community‘s malfeasance in 2016, 2017 and 2018 is to cover up for what his minions are doing today. This would be known as deflecting a deflection.

Misrepresentation

There are two instances of recent purposeful misrepresentation  from the left that really irk me:

- Trump recently tweeted that, if California did!'t let its  snow runoff water flow out to the Pacific Ocean, then their wildfires might not be as severe. The fake media has changed this criticism to mean that the firefighters in the Golden State didn't have enough water to fight  their  wildfires. Balderdash! What Trump clearly meant was that the environmentalist's attempt to save the snail darter, etc. has kept  the state from using this water to keep its trees and underbrush from dying during periods of drought.  (It is estimated that California now has 14.9 million dead trees.) This dead vegetation and resistance to cutting it down makes them the fuel for these epic wildfires there.

- President Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum using national defense as a reason. He indicated that, because of dumping, both these industries in the US were close to death and this was a national security threat and couldn't be allowed to happen as we would need this manufacturing might in case of international conflict. Canadian Premier Trudeau purposely twisted this rationale by saying that his country was not a national security threat to the US. -- a purposeful distortion. No wonder he has attracted Trump's opprobrium.

California, There You Go!

"California represents the future." -- Senator Kamala Harris

Our  once Golden State, Cali-not-for-ya, is coming apart at the seams with crushing homelessness, multitudinous genders, rampant drugs, uncontrolled annual wildfires, militant free-speech opponents, preventable droughts, massive numbers of illegal aliens (and concomitant voter fraud), fecal-paved streets, a middle-class exodus (U-Hauls leaving the state cost 15x more than those entering), a governor who giddyups on a moonbeam, prancing Hollywood effetes, officials attempting to nullify federal immigration laws, and numerous unctuous Silicone Valley lefty billionaires. All in all, this once glorious and beautiful state is rapidly becoming a festering third-world hellhole.

California has 1/8 of this country's population yet 1/3 of our welfare recipients. And despite some tremendously wealthy tech moguls, it has sadly become our nation's poorest state ... and is seemingly determined to continue to chart its own disastrous course ... even if this means departing from our American union. Perhaps the San Andreas fault might first accomplish this as a geographic reality

Afterward: I almost titled this posting "A Cryin' Shame."

CCCC

To follow up on my notion that California should start to take preventative measures to prevent its devastating wildfires, I have constructed the following scenario:

California has approximately 100 million acres of land ... of which 43 million is devoted to agriculture ... see: California Statistics ... leaving 57 million probable 2/3rds of which are away from the wildfire vulnerable coastal region ... leaving around 20 million acres to address with fire prevention methods. Arbitrarily, I will assume that addressing one half of this land would greatly reduce the wildfire risk ... so we will take it from there.

Now, let us assume that California has decided to groom this amount of land to rid it of combustible material and creates a California Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCC) to do this ... call them the groomers for short. Now let us assume that each groomer can clear one acre of land a day of combustible material (some days less, some days more using machinery if necessary). This should mean about 200 acres a year, or 5 groomers for every thousand acres. This suggests that a CCCC of only fifty thousand able-bodied men and women could go a long way to preventing the type of infernos we have recently seen.

Now, assuming a minimum wage rate of $15 per hour and a 40 hour week with 30% more in benefits, each worker would cost about $40,000 per year. This means that the CCCC would cost around $2 billion per year. Using prisoners and welfare recipients could dramatically reduce this cost.

Comparing this outlay against the annual losses due to wildfires (and the cost of fighting these wildfires) seems to argue for California starting a CCCC of groomers. But initially finding this seed money in a state bloated with "diversity" and "inclusion" and green energy and bloated administrative and illegal immigrant health-care costs might take some real management skills which appear nonexistent as present.

Perplexing Questions

I am perplexed by the following conundrums:

How do all the carbon emissions emanating from all the massive California wildfires compare with those saved by this state's very tough exhaust emissions standards?

How could Donald Trump, a man with so many obvious flaws, win the presidency?

What did ex-President Obama discuss with the leaders of China, India and France when he met with them recently? Were these meetings in violation of the Logan Act?

As Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe is shifting from Russian collusion to obstruction of justice, is this a problem for his investigation? If there were no underlying crimes, how can anyone be obstructing justice?

Since the Obama-Clinton tag team did so much to forward Russian interests (Crimea, Ukraine, Syria, Uranium One, Iran, emasculate missile defense, etc.), why would Putin have preferred Trump over Hillary in the last election?

Why did the dollar drop relative to the yuan over 6% earlier this year and has now returned to near parity? Is China playing trade games with Trump?

Are womens' accusations of sexual predation enough to produce recriminations on the presumed predictors? Does not there need to be some corroborating evidence too?

If none of the global warming predictions or computer models have been validated, how can these alarmists still be believed or their very expensive remedies be endorsed by governments?

With probably hundreds of thousands of strapping young men and women who are indolent and mischief-makers, why can't they be organized into a Civilian Conservation Corps to destroy all the combustible material in all the critical areas of California ... in order to eliminate the devastating wildfires there?
