Leftovers

We all know what if is like to be served the remnants of an over-stocked meal for the third and fourth nights ... particularly if the original dinner was just so-so. You can just warm over mashed potatoes and grisly meat just so many times before it’s tossed out or given to the dog to turn it’s nose up to too.

If you have been reading this blog for any period of time, kind reader, you know where this post is going with this set-up ... yes, Socialism, Communism and other forms of Marxism ... all reheated versions of the same liberal dystopia that the next generation of Bernie Bros keeps trying to dress up with gravy and parsley to feed to us once again.

These equal-outcome ideologies have been tried over and over and over again ... from the Plymouth Colony, to Russia, to Vietnam, to Cuba ... and now Venezuela ... each time to fail miserably ... the misery suffered by the proletariat, not the leaders who had shielded their future with Swiss bank accounts. And each time, the excuse was that “it wasn’t done right.”

Now, we are offered these same leftovers by the power-hungry Democrats ... hoping that their strategy of hiding the sad history of this ideology by tearing these pages out of our children’s history books would allow them to once again run ... and ruin things.

No thanks, Comrade Biden.

New Newspeak

Sometimes I, like George Orwell, believe that liberal brains are mis-wired and they are “unable to process.” It seems that they have an uncanny way of offering up arguments that, by their mystical quality, sound possible ... but fall apart upon closer inspection. The following is a comment on a recent blog post here that has Swiss cheese holes all through it:

People yearn for simple ways to describe complex issues. In the political realm, unlike science, the simplest solution is too often a short term fix, which fails in the long run due to those pesky unintended consequences.

This is Trump's appeal: He offers simple solutions. A Wall to stem illegal immigration, Tariffs to punish China, Hydroxychloriquine, cancelling Treaties, on and on. The ramifications of his actions are beyond his ability to process. It will take a long tome to fix the mess he has created.”

 A few observations:

- William of Ocean did not say the his “razor” only applied to science. He obviously meant that the simpler solution applied across the board.

- How does this commenter know that Trump’s solutions will fail in the long run ...  does he have a Magic 8 Ball? And does his observation imply that they are working at least in the short term? The wall and Trump’s standing up to China are seminal events that, I predict, will make the history books.

- Trump’s jettisoning of the Paris Climate Accord and the Iran Nuclear Deal was legit because they were NOT treaties since they had never been ratified by Congress. The remake of NAFTA WAS ratified by Congress.

- Are these Biden solutions also short-term: the Green New Deal, huge tax increases, open borders, eliminate cash bail, defund the police, no fracking, Medicaid for All (including illegals), more regulations, gut our armed forces, eliminate prisons, rewrite our history, more regulations, voting from prison, scuttle tariffs, Socialism, etc.?

Bottom line: With many of these cockamamie Democrat proposals, there is no long-term ...

Bernie’s Flaw

Bernie Sanders has a compelling message for America’s youth — Fidel Castro overthrew the evil Batista regime in Cuba and brought the bright benefits of Socialism to the downtrodden there. And this is what Sanders is promising for America ... and he won’t be a totalatarian like Castro turned out to be.

Sounds good to our naive snowflakes, right? And Bernie has a way of convincing them that he will bring them the upsides of Socialism without the firing squads. A difficult argument for Trump to thwart.

But, what Bernie’s Democrat opponents have neglected to point out ... but, I suspect, Trump will not ignore ... is the following — the United States today is not what Cuba was under Batista ... very far from it. In fact, Trump has moved America dramatically away from this possibility ... reducing our income disparity, bringing employment back onshore  and dramatically reducing federal regulations ... which were Obama’s authoritarian instincts.

So Sander’s campaign promises are, in reality, a solution looking for what is no longer a problem.

Obvious Truth

As has been demonstrated over and over again ... free-market capitalism creates wealth ... whereas socialism ... modified by any squishy adjective ... destroys wealth. Arm-waving rhetoric denying this obvious truth is not believable ... it is diabolical.

The Truth

President Trump has been very effectively painted by the media as a serial liar (something like 13,000 lies since he took office) ... when, in fact, he is possibly the greatest truth-telling politician of our lifetimes. That is why he is president and has such adoring crowds. It is the media liars who refuse to recognize this truth (and his truths.)

Here are a few of Trump’s truths:

- American leaders have allowed China to steal us blind over the last 30 years

- The American economy could be a lot better

- The US needs to have the best military in the world

- Our judicial system too often creates laws, does not interpret laws

- Many European allies have stepped back and let the U.S. carry the majority of the responsibility for keeping the world safe

- The United States will never be a Socialist country

- Spending our treasure and the lives of our youth to “fix” other nations is foolish

- Global warming is a gigantic scam

- Washington is a swamp filled with too many self-serving and often dishonest bureaucrats

- Republican campaign colluding with Russia was a media/Deep State attempted cabal

- Russia under Putin is a bad actor ... but it can be useful in countering China and the radical Muslim threats

- Nations without borders are not nations

- Patriotism and respect for our flag is not a sin

- Much of our media dispenses “fake news” shaped by Liberal politics

- Immigration, even large immigration, is good only if controlled and selective

- Iran and North Korea are dangerous enemies and need to be put in a box

- There are a number of other despotic nation’s around the world which are not our friends but, nonetheless, need to be dealt with so that they don’t become our enemies

- Israel and Great Britain are our closest natural friends and need to be treated as such

- The UN is a very expensive, yet ineffective “world government”

- Liberal-run cities ate generally failing their citizens

- Blacks and Latinos have been ill-served by their Democrat masters

ENOUGH?

Obvious Truth

It is healthy for our country to swing back and forth between liberal and conservative policies ... as long as neither one destroys the other completely. Both political philosophies, if given their complete leash, will destroy America.

Don’t take this comment as endorsing pure socialism however.

Too Much Wealth?

Capitalism works! It works so well that socialism and communism can suck off some of the wealth it creates and it still survives. Where capitalism is left relatively unencumbered, as in the United States and parts of the British Commonwealth, it creates wealth, enormous wealth. For instance here are some of the successes of this economic system:

- A Beverly Hills mountain-top estate is valued at a cool $1 billion

- A deVinci painting recently sold in New York for $453 million (in this case the buyer rumored to be a Saudi prince)

- During the holidays due to large influx of mega-yachts, some are parked at St. Barths as far as a mile out to sea

- Bill and Melinda Gates donated §4.78 billion to charity last year but still were 12th overall in wealth. Jeff Bezos gave away $2 billion, yet was still was the wealthiest man in the world (before his divorce settlement.) Last year Warren Buffet donated $3.6 billion to the Gates Foundation.

- In the 25 years since China adopted capitalism (albeit state-controlled), it has gone from a third-world economy to the number two wealthiest nation.

But, for whatever reason, when wealth bubbles occur, there always seems to be a way to bleed off the excess:

- The Pharaohs built the great pyramids and the Sphinx

-The Catholic Church built the great cathedrals of Europe

- The Chinese Song Dynasty built the Great Wall ... and modern China builds million-person “ghost” cities

- The US multi-billionaires hold gigantic conferences on global warming

Actually the negative interests rates in Europe and Japan nay well be another symptom of too much money sloshing around. In Germany, you can loan the government one million Euros and, in ten years, it will give you back 5 thousand Euros less. Some deal! Perhaps, just perhaps those Democrat candidates advocating a wealth tax are responding to this notion of too much wealth. We’ll see.

Compassion

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, — Saint Bernard

There is a push in Massachusetts now to pay for poor people’s baby diapers. Who can be against such compassion? Me for one ... I’ll rather practice my compassion one on one. The welfare state keeps finding more ways of insinuating socialism into the commonweal. We give food stamps to indigents to help feed their children ... then we provide free school lunches ... then school breakfasts ... the meals for poor children when they aren’t in school. Free housing, free education, free health care, free cellphones, free everything. Why do we keep layering all these giveaways on top of previous giveaways? Is it compassion ... or is it vote buying?

Socialism is an insidious economic policy. It eats away at capitalism until it removes all incentives to excel ... and eventually it kills its host. Then we are Venezuela ... and the architects of this dystopia look around and say, “Not me!” Unless, of course, they have become part of the political elite ... and get the first ten bites at the apple ... ahead of all those souls for whom they once pretended to have such compassion.

I suppose we can write such greed off to human nature ... but, dear reader, the founders of our country understood this trope ... and that is why they designed things as they did. They wanted to protect America against the ruin spawned by hypocritical compassion. So far, their genius has helped us navigate almost 250 years of the corrosive efforts of the bleeding hearts among us.

The question then is, “How much longer can we hang on when virtually all Democrat candidates for president are so chock-a-block full of ersatz compassion.?” Hopefully the ghost of James Madison will intervene once again and keep the compassionate wolves at bay.

Income Disparity

Much of the impetus behind the blind drive to a socialist government in the United States derives from the disparity between the rich and the non-rich. This disparity has demonstratively grown in recent years to the point where the super rich and their lavish lifestyles are visible examples to the rest of us of a problem with capitalism. The simple solution to the simple-minded becomes socialism ... that economic policy that is inculcated into our children from kindergarten through graduate school by those pedagogues living in their left-canted ivory towers.

Yes, America now embraces snippets of socialism —  Medicaid, the Earned Income Tax Credit, food stamps, etc. But we don’t yet have the public ownership of the factors of production or services like in Venezuela or Cuba ... where the disparity of income shifts to that between the governors and the governed.

Can this disparity be fixed under capitalism. Yes, it has in the past through anti-trust legislation ... which should be resurrected to deal with the new technology trusts that have reared their ugly heads in the 21st century ... whereas fixing this disparity with a socialists regime can only be accomplished by bringing down our capitalist government ... the goose laying these golden income-disparity eggs.

The time is also ripe for another capitalistic solution to income disparity other than the Bernie Sanders lunacy. And, I can’t believe that ham-fisted laws that restrict corporate compensation ratios will fix things. But perhaps our tax code could be used ... maybe by making taxes on capital gains progressive like that on incomes ... since much of these stratospheric executive compensations come from stock options? And finally, eliminating the  “carried interest” tax loophole that the Republicans promised to deep-six three years ago. What’s the delay Donald?

Afterward: Restrict this progressive taxing proposal to only capital gains achieved though stock option grants.
