A Sobering Thought

Some say everyone will get COVID-19 eventually  ... particularly if Trump restarts the economy on or around Easter. And, given my risk factors — 81 with hypertension and diabetes — the odds are against my survival. So, has Trump given me a death sentence in order to keep our country from dropping into an economic depression?

Italy is already practicing coronavirus triage ... not offering extreme treatments to those over the age of 60 ... denying them ventilators and respirators.  If the United States is overwhelmed with Wuhan flu cases, I suspect the same might happen here ... despite, or maybe because of our aging population (remember Trump, Biden, Pelosi, Sanders and virtually our entire ruling class also fit into this category). And until an effective vaccine is developed and/or treatment cures are found, there is a potential for tens of thousands (or more) deaths of us senior citizens. A sobering thought.

And if this nightmare scenario does come about, who of this older group might be spared? George Soros? Robert De Niro? Warren Buffett? Chuck Schumer? Mike Bloomberg? Joy Bahar? You bet your ass these poobahs will have the means to jump the line ... as will most other qualifying financiers, entertainers and politicians. Or will their altruism take over ... and they will step aside so that our younger generation will be spared because they are the future of our country?

Nah! Don’t be silly!

Today’s Poser

If Mike Bloomberg’s $500,000,000+ spending on political ads didn’t do the trick in 2020, how could Russia’s $250,000 ad spend (1/2,000th of Bloomberg’s) in 2016 sway the election to Trump?

(Tip of the hat to a Mike Lester cartoon.)

Billion Dollars

Mike Bloomberg spent a supposed billion dollars on his failed presidential campaign bid. This seems like a colossal waste of money. For instance, he could have instead bought:

- 20 billion pieces of Double Bubble gum

 - 20,000 Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWDs

 - 50 billion plastic straws

- 11.2 miles of the high-speed coastal rail link between L.A. and San Francisco

- 4 thousand tickets on the Virgin Galactica Spaceship Two suborbital flight

- 5 delegates to the Democrat nominating convention from American Samoa

Bernie vs. Bloomberg

Trump has indicated that he would rather face Bloomberg in November ... other than Bernie.  This flies in the face of conventional wisdom ... that Bloomberg in many respects is the more difficult opponent ... with his many billions and more moderate positions.

Then why might Trump prefer Bloomberg as an opponent?

Very simple ... it’s a choice between positive and negative political messages. Bloomberg would be running with a “I’m not Trump” message. Whereas Bernie has a transformative message, however poisonous to many ... “We need to become more like Socialist Sweden ...  with free healthcare, free college, free housing, open borders, voting from prison, Green New Deal, etc.”

Bloomberg would be Diet Trump ... many of his same policies except for climate change, gun control and open borders ...  but without the tweets ... too easy a switchover. Whereas Sanders is leading a “movement” ... a movement backed by change ... however distasteful to many of us.

Trump recognizes that a passionate positive message is a tougher challenge than a squishy negative one.

Mini Mike Offer

Seeing as how the Bloomberg campaign is now throwing money around, I have a proposal for them — for a million dollar donation to the Potts Family Foundation, I will refrain from publishing any more Bloomberg hit pieces on this blog. And, furthermore, for an equivalent amount in Bitcoin paid directly to me, I will herein offer six puff pieces between now and November.

So, dear reader, you can track my financial fortunes by what you soon read here about Mini Mike.
