Unreal Realities

This blog has pointed out that America has been living with unreal realities ... see: Reality Check. Pre-Trump, the United States was embracing many media- and politician-inspired “truths” that the Orangeman is attempting to kick into a cocked hat. They include:

- We can trust Iran to give up its nuclear ambitions and stop its sponsorship of terrorism

- Once China embraced capitalism, its 1.3 billion people would become huge customers for U.S. companies

- The Chinese model of totalitarian capitalism is superior to free-market capitalism

- Abortion, even right before birth, is moral and a woman’s legal right

The Greatest

"The Greatest" is no more. Muhammad Ali (née, Cassius Clay) has died at age 74 from Parkinson's disease complications. Yes, he is receiving kudos from across the land ... most of which are deserved. He was a unparalleled boxer and a macho media magnet who taunted his opponents and his audience with imaginative insults. Who does this remind you of? Why, bigger than life Donald Trump of course ... just substitute business acumen for athletic prowess.

I won't recall all of Muhammad Ali's ups and downs here because most know them better than I, but he did do and say some outrageous things ... for which he was unapologetic. The price he paid for his hubris and grandstanding was years of declining health. Yet he also received many awards ... including the Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush ... another American of a similar age who never had to endure the rigors of Vietnam ... justly or unjustly.

I suppose that many with great natural talents carry their resulting successes differently ... some with humility, some with indifference and some with arrogance, but "The Louisville Lip" clearly fell in the latter category. His early conversion to Islam and his refusal to be drafted alienated him from many of his countrymen ... including myself. But I never hated him. I just didn't fully understand him ... and seeing him shake his way through his later life softened these feelings. But, like Ted Williams, Ty Cobb and Donal Trump, today I see his greatness with some scudding shadows.

Yet, for all time, I can't help but acknowledge Muhammad Ali's overall luminosity.

Islamophobia

The New York Times magazine section this Sunday has a story about the difficulties that confronted a Bavarian village in Germany that was invaded by large numbers of Muslim immigrants and how it was dealing with its Islamophobia. Being that this was the Times, I prejudged the direction that this article would be taking me -- small-mind Germans disrespecting an upright Muslim family trying to escape the horrors of civil war and, as a result of an enlightenment, opening up their hard Teutonic hearts -- and didn't finish reading it. (Go peruse it yourself and see if my prejudice is mistaken ... see: The New Europeans.)

But it did get me to thinking about this supposed curse of the small-minded people like myself. How should I approach this "mania" that is sweeping the secular world ... that an alarmingly large number of Muslims, enabled by the billions of oil money that has dropped into their laps and by the leader of the free world's forbearance, have resurrected their ancient hope for an Islamic caliphate that would convert the rest of the world to this "religion of peace" and so force us to embrace all of its covenants.

Like many politicians on other sticky problems, I have been "evolving my attitude on this issue" to where now I believe that the solution to this mania lies totally within the Muslim communities ... and, if after a reasonable time period, they have not solved it, then it needs to be dealt with somewhat sharply by the rest of us.

And how should these Muslim communities deal with this problem? Let me count the ways:

- The Imams of all the mosques around the world need to publicly disavow this notion of a world-wide caliphate forced upon the rest of us. Those unwilling to take such a step should be defrocked by the Muslim higher authorities.

- Muslim communities should shoulder the responsibility of identifying and reporting on the radical elements that are festering within. If this means that they suffer retaliation from these terrorists, then this is the price they should be willing to pay.

- The Muslim religion itself needs a reformation movement wherein the more violent and antisocial elements of the Quran are deemphasized or recast in the context of the times in which they were written ... indicating that they have been misinterpreted in today's world.

- Muslims should take concerted efforts to integrate themselves into their communities. This means no "no go" Muslim enclaves, no Sharia law overriding local ordinances, no insistence on severe Islamic garb that hides identities, no attacks of the mores of the communities in which they reside, and pledging allegiance to their current countries.

- Countries that are Muslim theocracies should allow secular instincts to take hold without undemocratic suppression. Places like Iran that put down such populist instincts should not be kowtowed to ... like they have been in recent times by our current poobahs.

These conditions seem quite unlikely to happen.... even with a reasonable subset of same. (I'd settle for any three.) So, I guess our (and their) lives are going to get much more difficult.

Hijab Jeebies

Our children's TV opiate, Sesame Street, has just unveiled ... or should I say veiled ... a hijab-wearing Afghani puppet named Zari who will teach our munchkins about "girl empowerment, social and emotional wellbeing" as experienced by Muslim girls ... see: Breitbart Article.

A few small problems Zari ... number one, hijab wearers are not allowed to show any of their hair if they are devout Muslims (nor be without a burqa, a face veil) ... and, number two, Muslim girls in Afghanistan are often not empowered or living well ... particularly if they reside in an area controlled by the Taliban. There they cannot attend school ... they cannot have a job or be seen outside without a male relative as a companion ... they must be submissive to males ... they must be completely covered in traditional Islam garments ... and the punishments for disobeying these strict Muslim doctrines is often lashings or death ... see: The Afghan Web.

I wonder if Sesame Street will show any of these downsides to Zari's life? Or will it keep up this saccharin flacking for its romantic vision of Islam ... slavishly hoping this religion will become something that it is often not.

Strong Coffee

Sleepyheads, if you wish to be jolted awake about the threat that Islam (not just Islamic jihad) poses for the future of civilization, then read the following essay by one of my favorite bloggers, W. In this frank and studied blast at this "religion of Peace" Amselem disassembles a lot of the myth and misinformation that we are being fed by those unwilling or unable to see the naked threat that our world is facing  ... see: Dealing with the Islamic Threat. This is pretty powerful stuff ... so be forewarned.

And now I have one more reason not to vote for that Islamophile, Ms. Clinton.

The Next Caliphate

The Muslim religion has often had an unique proselytizing strategy ... either convert to our way of worship or we will kill you. And this impetus has been abetted by the promise that any Muslims dying in the pursuit of this end will be richly rewarded in the afterlife. These unyielding stratagems have worked at least twice in the past ... first when the Bedouins helped Islam conquer almost half of the known world and, secondly, during the growth of the Ottoman Empire. Now Islam appears to be entering another ascendancy with the creation of multiple radical sub-sects spread throughout the Mideast desiring finally to create the ultimate world-wide caliphate. This, interestingly, corresponds with the leader of the free world, the President of the United States, having grown up in a Muslim world, clearly exhibiting a sympathetic prejudice to this quest. And, for some mysterious reason which escapes me, much of the rest of the Western progressive movement seems to be following in lock-step with our fearless leader.

And since there are something like 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, this is not a trivial threat. Even if only 1% of this this populous is radicalized, this still means 15 million bad guys are to be dealt with ... the ones who may be naively trying to recreate this caliphate. Fortunately for the rest of us ... some 7 billion of other religions or no religion ... there are at least three major countries which are not ready to rollover to this existential threat ... Russia, China and India. I am tempted also to include the United States and France, but not quite yet ... perhaps after the next presidential election. The rest of  Europe, particularly Germany, seems still to have the scales firmly attached to their eyes.

I can't believe that, given the firepower of the protagonists mentioned above ... and the demographic imbalances ... that this will turn out well for the caliphate antagonists ... particularly if the protagonists can garner the gumption to resist. Of course when Iran gets atom bombs ... combined with those that Pakistan already has ... this shifts the odds slightly.

Afterthought: The motivation for many liberals (Western European politicians, the Clinton Foundation, John Kerry and much of the Obama administration) to embrace Muslims and Muslim causes may be little more than money ... 30 talents of silver ... the cash crumbs that fall from the oil-rich tables of Mideastern potentates.

Actions Instead of Words

 

President Obama just gave an impassioned talk in Turkey in which he reiterated his misbegotten views of Islam ... saying that this religion is not one of violence and that it is Muslims who are the overwhelming victims of those radicals (a bit of a contradiction). He also warned that the West's equating of ISIS with the Muslim faith will only lead to larger recruitment of such terrorists. And he also cautioned that to use a religious test to sift out potential terrorist from among the Syrian immigrants is not the American way and is shameful. For those of you who want to scratch you head over Obama' s full speech, it is reproduced HERE..

Excuse me Mr. President but you are full of hot air. Your actions defy your words. Time and time again you have ignored opportunities to begin to move the Muslim religion away from its radical tendencies and have enabled them to march further into the depths of depravity. Your strategy to "diminish and defeat" these ISIS savages and the other radical elements of Islam does nothing but let them have their leash. Let me count the ways:

- From the very first days of your presidency, you have embraced and met with the Muslim Brotherhood ... a group that has since been identified as a terrorist organization.

- You have diminished and slighted Israel at every opportunity ... the only true ally we have in the Middle East and a major bulwark against the radical elements of Islam.

- When el Sisi, President of Egypt, called for a "reformation" within Islam for it to denounce its more radical tenants, what was your reaction? You stayed stunningly mum.

- You pulled our troops out of Iraq ... only to have this country sink below the waves and spawn ISIS. And instead you created a surge of 30,000 U.S. troops into Afghanistan ... the "good war." However, the rules of engagement you imposed upon then neutered them to the point where nothing got accomplished ... except "green on blue" killings of Americans by turncoat Afghans.

- You have repeatedly crowed that the greatest threat to world security is ... climate change! Yes, climate change!! We don't have enough turnip trucks in the United States for our people to fall off of for this bit of sinister misdirection to be believed.

- President Obama, last year, proudly released five hardened Islamic terrorists back to the battlefield in exchange for the Army deserter, Bowe Bergdahl ... one of the most bone-headed prisoner exchanges in history.

- And when Egypt offered the Palestinian Authority large swaths of the Sinai Peninsula so that they could  expand the Gaza Strip into a real two-state solution, what was your reaction? You refused to even acknowledge this act of statesmanship of Egypt's part.

- Your attempts to neutralize ISIS, for some strange reason, did not include the bombing of its capital, Raqqa, or the elimination of the oil infrastructure that provides much of its operating budget. In fact the number of air sorties over Iraq and Syria that you have authorized are but a tiny fraction of what would be required ... with 2/3rds of our jets returning with their weapons unused. You have no strategy to defeat ISIS ... you barely have any tactics.

-You have cozied up to the Ayatollahs in Iran and given them the resources to continue their sponsorship of Islamic terrorism throughout the world ... and clearly given a path to atomic weapons.

Need I document more of your tilt toward Islam?

Mr. President, I can't imagine that, if you truly believe in the bilge that was spewing out of your pie hole, that you would have behaved, over the last seven years, in the ways other than what I have just recounted.

Muslim Martin Luther

I have blogged before about the need for a reformation process within the Muslim religion ... see: A Modern Crusade. The president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, has also called for a "revolution" within Islam in order to modernize it ... see: Foxy. And now, that quiet crusader for women's rights within this same religion, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, has outlined the things that she thinks need to change within Islam ... see: Breitbart Article.

The Somali-born Hirsi Ali has taken many courageous stands for women's rights within the Muslim milieu and has been the target of deadly violence ... see: Politico Article. Just last year she was to receive an honorary degree from Brandeis University which then cravenly backed out due to political pressure from the left ... see: New York Times Article. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this remake of Islam into a modern 21st century religion was instigated by this woman? She would then be the Muslim Martin Luther if you will ...

Does anyone also find it strange that the president of the United States has never acknowledged any such reformative thoughts ... when this might be the most effective strategy to combat the growing violent extremist movement within the Muslim world?

Roots

The Diplomad, who has spent considerable time acting as our official representative in Muslim countries and can offer an unique perspective on same, has just written in his blog a reprise of our president's background ... investigating why Obama may have deep sympathies for the Muslim religion ... and thus be somewhat paralyzed to address its more violent tendencies ... see: Obama, a Muslim Hater of America?. Obama has even slipped into saying that he was a Muslim ... see: First Bing Video ... and has often extolled this faith to great lengths ... see: Second Bing Videos ... far further than his somewhat less enthusiastic treatment of Christianity (remember his National Prayer Breakfast slights?)

But what the Diplomad has left out of this tracing of Obama's roots is his possible relation with Bill Ayers' father, Thomas Ayers. Admittedly this relationship is somewhat fuzzy and speculative but it is worth a gander and some further study ... see: WND Article ... perhaps we'll see more in history books yet to be written. Also let us not forget that Obama's half brother, Malik Obama, is the international finance officer for the Muslim Brotherhood ... see: WND Article.

But there has to be some reason why our president is unable to separate the wheat from the chaff in the Islamic faith ... and this may well be the imprinting from his childhood ... augmented by the warped view, learned on his mother's knee, of the sins of the country he now leads.

Straw Man

Once again our pusillanimous president has erected a straw man to suit his misguided notion that "radical Islamic terrorists" are not our enemy. He is now saying that it is an "ugly lie" that the West is at war with Islam ... see: Breitbart Article. Duh! Of course the West is not at war with the entire Muslim religion. We are ... or should be at war with the jihadis, those Muslims who want, in the name of Mohammad, to establish a world-wide caliphate ... subjugating all other religions through taxation, conversion or murder.

By saying that we are not at war with Islam, President Obama is suggesting that someone, somewhere, at sometime has asserted this to be true. I haven't seen a scintilla of evidence to back up this silly claim. Does Obama want the over one billion Muslims in the world to believe that this is occurring on a regular basis? Certainly these words would so suggest ... and have sinister implications as to the motivations of the "leader of the free world." To me Obama's refusal to make a clear distinction between all Muslims and those Muslims who are so radicalized as to pose a serious threat to world order ... is, in itself, a swipe at a hornets nest ... an act that may have serious world-wide consequences for many years to come.

This posing of a straw men by Obama ... coupled with his foot dragging in creating a viable strategic push-back to ISIS, Boko Haram, the Taliban, and the various factions of al Qaeda (such as in Yemen) ... has me questioning his true motivations. This is particularly so when I see his continual cozying up to Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood ... his refusal to see the benefit that can come from Egypt's stance against radical Islam ... and his blatant animosity toward Israel. Clearly, whatever our president's deep-seated intentions are ... and despite his smooth Teleprompter rhetoric ... the result of his presidency has been to make a dog's breakfast out of the winning track he inherited from his predecessor.

Can this be what he meant by his vow to "change" things? God, I hope not!

Mouthpieces

In a way I pity the poor Obama administration's mouthpieces ... for they clearly are living under rigid constraints about what they can and cannot say ... even when they are constantly beaten up in the process. Josh Earnest, the administration's press secretary (and his predecessor, that common streetwalker, Jay Carney), Bernadette Meehan, the National Security Council spokeswoman, the State Department's Spox, Marie Harf (you know, the blond bomb-shell wannabe) ...  and even some of the Defense Department shills.  All of them must embrace the tortured and often inane language that is obviously imposed from above when they are issuing statements about the latest ISIS atrocities ... saying 21 Egyptian citizens instead of 21 Coptic Christians were beheaded in Libya ...required to say that Islam is a religion of peace ... and pointing to the gang affiliation of the latest Copenhagen gunman and not his Muslim motivations.

Can we say that these language constraints come directly from the president? It is not a stretch to so conclude ... since he himself goes to remarkable lengths to call the shooting at a Kosher deli in Paris "random" ... to say that ISIS is not Islamic ... and will only use the term "radical extremism" when we all know the source of 99.9% this blood-lust is some of the teachings of Mohammad.

Aphorism Agenda

Dog Whistle

The Obama administration has the enviable knack for establishing imaginative vernaculars for their chief executive as a way of pushing his agenda. These bon mots are sometimes insults cloaked in a velvet glove. Here are a few examples with translations:

Degrade ISIS -- we will not send them any more Ramadan good-wishes cards.

Settled science -- Al Gore says it is so.

Bitter clingers -- a way of dissing "white folks" to non-whites and getting away with it.

Dog whistle -- white folks' way of referring to blacks in a oblique way so as not being called racists ... for examples "inner city" or "Detroit" ... i.e., a silent sound that only other whites can hear.

New car smell -- a suggestion that tired, old politicians (such as Hillary and Mitt) are not what America wants in the next election ... rather we need a fresh face like Elizabeth Warren.

Hope and change -- an oblique way of suggesting that President George W. Bush took this country in the wrong direction without saying exactly where we need to go. (We have unfortunately found out.)

You folks -- a way of seeming to belong to a group liking hamburgers while consuming copious quantities of waygu beef.

Dreamers -- the wrapping of illegal immigrants in a term that presupposes they are all young, ambitious and benign.

Let me be clear -- this may be a lie but I am saying it forcefully.
