The Debate

I tortured myself last night by watching about an hour of the final Democrat debate in New Hampshire. What a bunch of myopic nothingness! I swear that the only candidate that was not embarrassingly pandering to “blacks, browns and people of color” was Amy Klobuchar (well maybe a little.) I must have heard the word “racism” snarled a hundred times.

The rest of the arm-waving rhetoric was centered around various schemes to extract more tax money or silly ways to spend it. Do any of these candidates think beyond our shores ... or other than how to get minorities to vote for them? What about China’s hegemomy, federal deficits, stopping illegal immigration, entitlement spending, Muslim extremism, North Korea and Iran nukes, economic growth strategies, NATO policies, Middle East peace, etc.

One would think that the sun rises and sets on a very few domestic issues ... mostly of the vote-buying nature. What a waste of TV viewers’ time. The Democrats need to do something drastic if they don’t want to be swept away in November!

Hate Speech

ANTIFA

CRAZY HAS NO PARTY — New York Post headline

When President Trump decries illegal immigration, it is labeled by the left media as “hate speech” and conflated with the El Paso shooter. But that Dayton wackjob, who was a supporter of ANTIFA and Elizabeth Warren, is conveniently downplayed by this same media. So if Trump pillories these ANTIFA fascists, is this hate speech too? Yes? No? Please explain ...

La La Land

The responsibility of state governments is protecting their citizens from criminals and mayhem, building and maintaining certain infrastructure, spending taxpayers' funds in a fiscally responsible manner, executing plans to ameliorate potential natural disasters (floods, droughts, wildfires, earthquakes, etc.), higher educating their children, and working to otherwise better the lives of their citizens. California falls down on most of these fronts. Recent history shows that it cannot plan and execute solutions to at least four of these duties, fiscal responsibility, wildfire dangers, droughts and protecting its citizenry.

In this blog posting I will first focus on just one of these failings ... reducing the dangers of wildfires. Quite a while ago I wrote here about how totally ineptly California handled the natural danger of wildfires there ... see: California Burning. And now, eight years later, nothing seems to have changed. Los Angeles and surroundings are in the midst of the worst wildfires ever, requiring untold millions of dollars to keep more houses from burning down ... see: LA Times Article.These. same millions,  if they had been better spent on preventative measures, could have possibly averted this crisis.

Instead Governor Moonbeam and the liberal California establishment have focused their energies and shrinking discretionary funds on most everything else ... protecting illegal aliens, gun control, transgender everything, globalism, diversity and inclusion training, fighting global warming, etc.  -- the primary responsibilities of state governments, as listed above, have taken a back seat to the liberal agenda. Is it planning for the next drought? No. Is it really protecting its citizenry from imported criminals? No. Is it taking preventive measures against future wildfires? No. Is it on a path to fiscal sanity? No. I'm not even sure it is spending much effort in preparing for the next big earthquake,

And they want to secede from the Union! This really is La La Land ...

Against the Grain

Crosscut Saw

One thing (among many) that really bugged and bugs me about the Clinton and Obummer administrations was/is when they would say, "the American people think (or want or believe)" ... primarily because I consider myself as part of "the American people" and often I do not think (or want or believe) what looney idea was being attributed to me.

Rather than being dissuaded by this prejudice, I will now violate my own taboo and propose that the American people do not want a lot of what Obummer has been doing these last seven years and so many months. But, in this case, I obviously mean only the majority of the American people ... not them all ... like James Carville and Valarie Jarrett so often have loved to claim.

How has Obummer been governing against the grain of the majority of Americans?

One obvious action has been his blatant encouragement of legal and illegal immigration ... even after being slapped down by the U.S. court system. This American aversion to both legal and illegal immigration in general includes both Latinos and the thousands of unvetted Muslims often from strife-torn countries. Being forced to train your foreign replacement does not often sit well with Americans. And clearly every horrific terrorist attack by "Muslim extremists" ... and the stealthy and very costly insertion of needy immigrants into unsuspecting U.S. communities solidifies this growing aversion.

Yes, those few million indigents who are getting free or cheap healthcare as a result of Obamacare are pleased with our president. But the much greater tens of millions who have seen their healthcare deductibles, co-pays and premiums skyrocket with the Democrats' [Un]affordable Care Act are not quite so happy ... particularly when they were promised the exact opposite.

The Black Lives Matter demonstrators clearly like it when Obummer claims that our police "act stupidly" or when he suggests that a black victim "could have been his son." Somehow he never has a balanced approach to the inequities between law enforcers and law breakers. But I know that the vast majority of Americans, both black and white, support our thin blue lines, despite a few bad eggs, as the only bulwark against urban anarchy.

And every day that an American factory closes or moves off-shore because of poorly negotiated or unenforced trade agreements creates more disgruntled members of the struggling working class in Obummer's fiefdom. Watching Chinese and German economies soar while ours languishes suggests that something is not right on the free-trade front. The true measure of the cost of "free trade" is our ballooning negative balance of payments, our shrinking middle class, and our thousands of shuttered factories across America.

And there are other middle finger salutes that Obummer has been lifting in haughty defiance of the interests of the many who elected him ... but he often does it with such confidence and aplomb that he escapes their wrath. But in truth, Obummer has been governing so much against the will of the American people and against the grain of our society's ethos that his nickname could easily be "Crosscut."

Wrecking Ball

Rush Limbaugh, when Barack Obama first took office, trumpeted that now famous challenge, "I hope he fails." Unfortunately, President Obama has succeeded beyond I think even his wildest HOPE. He has been a one-man wrecking ball to the many structures that once made the United States the leader of the free world ... and he and his Svengali, Valerie Jarrettt, unfortunately still have a year and a half left to cause even more havoc.

Without getting into the gritty details, this disaster of a chief executive has mortgaged our great-grandchildren's future, corrupted just about every executive department, continually lied to the American people, gutted our military, alienated our allies, cozied up to our enemies, set race relations back generations, pissed on our Constitution, stifled our economy, rewarded failure, punished success, created new entitlements that probably will persist forever, broken numerous laws with impunity, abetted illegal immigration, ransacked our health-care system, elevate pop-culture banality to preeminence, encouraged much of our lap-dog media to ignore these many evil transformations ... and I am sure there are more sins that we will learn about as historians sift through this two-term carnage..

But there is one positive ... as David Brooks once observed, Obama still has a sharp crease to his trousers. The question of the day is ... does Hillary also take equally good care of her pants suits?

Feet of Clay

John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog points out that in a recent CNN interview, Donald Trump's thoughts on immigration have gone through a bit of a metamorphosis and that he is now sounding very much like the Democrat that he has been most of his life ... see: Trump Goes Soft on Immigration. Has the stalwart Trump suddenly gotten feet of clay? In particular please, dear reader, explain how Trump's following stream-of-conscious quotes from this interview sound any different from what Senator Chuck Schumer or Jeb Bush might spout:
Then we have a law, right? You’re supposed to come in legally. I would get people out, and I would have an expedited way of getting them back into the country so they can be legal ... We have to bring great people into this country, okay? And I want to bring — I love the idea of immigration, but it’s got to be legal immigration. Now, a lot of these people are helping us, whether it’s the grapes, or whether it’s jobs, and sometimes it’s jobs, in all fairness, I love our country, but sometimes it’s jobs that a citizen of the United States doesn’t want to do. I mean, there are jobs that a lot of people don’t want to do ... We’re going to something. I’ve been giving it so much thought, you know you have a — on a humanitarian basis, you have a lot of deep thought going into this, believe me. I actually have a big heart. … I mean, a lot of people don’t understand that, but the DREAMers, it’s a tough situation, we’re going to do something, and one of the things we’re going to do is expedite — when somebody’s terrific, we want them back here, but they have to be legally –.
Is Trump getting squishy and back-peddling on his previous diatribe against illegal Mexican criminal immigrants? Perhaps as with most controversies, The Donald likes to stake claims on both sides of the issue. And he says he is not a politician ...

Pushback

If one points out that illegal immigration is destroying America's social fabric and threatening our middle class, one is a xenophobe. If one pushes back against the clear excesses of the gay community, one is a homophobe. If one worries out loud that Muslim extremists want to convert the rest of the world into a caliphate, one is an Islamophobe. If one decries President Obama's abuse of power and his ignoring of our Constitution, one is a racist. If one shows that global warming has not occurred for 16 years and that the data is now being cooked to cover this fact, one is a denier. If one points out that women in America have it pretty darn good, one is a sexist.

And if one pushes back against such pejorative labels. saying that they do noting but encourage even more outrageous behavior from these groups, one is a curmudgeon and a misanthrope

The burden of these constant bombastic labels is getting too much for me and for the majority of Americans who just want to go along to get along, so I have decided to follow the crowd and, from now on, I am going to zip my lip.

NOT!

The Kennedy Insultitute

This weekend the dedication for the $79 million Edward M. Kennedy Institute ... which is an insult to anyone who knows anything about this reprobate's life ... was held in Boston to honor Ted Kennedy, the deceased Massachusetts senator and political heavyweight. In attendance were many old-boy politicos of both parties including Trent Lott, President Obama, John McCain, Joe Biden and Tom Daschle ... many speaking  lovingly of this pride of Massachusetts ... see: Fox News Story. This Instultitute is primarily a museum meant to honor Senator Kennedy and to educate the public on the workings of government. It was built next to the presidential library of his brother, John F. Kennedy using both public funds ($43 million) and private donations ($36 million) ... although it had been promised to be totally privately funded ... see: Boston Globe Story

It has many exhibits ... one detailing Teddy's cheating prowess at Harvard for which he was eventually expelled, another is the now rusty Oldsmobile Delmont  fished from the Chappaquiddick waters in which Mary Joe Kopechne gave her life as a tribute to Teddy's aquatic heroism, another the neck brace that Teddy wore to help convince the Cape Cod grand jury that he should not be indicted for manslaughter, another is a glowing testament to Teddy ... signed by the millions of illegal aliens who were made legal in the bill he elbowed through Congress in 1986 as the final solution for the United States' illegal immigration problem, another a huge bottle of Chevas Regal Scotch containing Kennedy's pickled brain as a tribute to his lifetime of pickling his brain with this same liquid, another is a Madam Tussuad's mock up of the "waitress sandwich" that Teddy and Senator Christopher Dodd made of a female server at the D.C. La Brasserie restaurant back in 1985 ... and many many more lowlights of this man's life.

For expansion info on these sterling exhibits, read Howie Carr's quick reprise of the "Lyin' of the Senate"'s checkered life ... see: Boston Herald Article.

Afterward: Howie Carr's article has been archived ... here's a better reference: Forbes Piece.

Orchestration

To me this is all too suspicious. The influx of Central-American children crossing illegally into the United States has doubled since last year causing a humanitarian crisis in our southwest… see: Financial Times Story. This tidal wave of minors will cost American taxpayers over two billion dollars and, because they are “children,” put more media pressure on Congress to do something about immigration reform.

How convenient … just when Senator Upchuck Schumer is putting on a full court press to pass his immigration-reform legislation before August.

I can not imagine that this is an accident … this influx of so many unaccompanied children who have traveled thousands of miles through Mexico and found their way into our country. This takes money and planning. And apparently the Obama administration is pulling out all stops to compound this problem by enlisting lawyers to help them stay in this country … see: New York Times Story.

This smells to me of an orchestrated attempt to coerce opponents of the “Dream Act” into submission ... using these children as all-suffering pawns. One might even call it a shakedown.

If it can be determined that the Obama-istas are in anyway behind the funding and logistics of this tidal wave of young illegal immigrants, then, once again, they are overtly working against the established laws passed by Congress. If this would not be subversive anarchy, then we need better words for it.

Afterward: A Texas judge has said that "the government has simply chosen not to enforce the United States border security laws" ... see: CBS Story.

The Wages of Sin

Mexico is rapidly becoming a place of brutal Afghanistan-like anarchy. Recently 72 men and women were massacred in north-eastern Mexico in what is believed to be a mass execution of Central Americans hoping to slip across the United States border. See: Mexican Massacre. These killings are attributed to a Mexican drug cartel branching out into human trafficking. It is believed that the four-year total of deaths attributed to these drug cartels now exceeds 28,000. Mexico, itself, seems unwilling or unable to curb this violence. And we in this country seem conveniently to paper-over this horrendous bloodshed.

Why do we ignore it? I think that many in our ruling class and glitterati find the work of these drug cartels to be quite utile. (By glitterati I mean many in the entertainment and sports industries who have more money than they can possibly rationally spend. And by ruling class, I mean our politicians and industry titans who turn their backs on our illegal immigration problem.) These cartels supply the cocaine that the glitterati (and some in the ruling class) stuff up their noses … and offer the ruling class a steady supply of cheap labor and emotional voters who are useful to their power-hungry purposes.

What is even more galling is that our glitterati and ruling class too often pontificate on how we, who decry this massive illegal immigration and this manic drug abuse are the baddies … and that they are the compassionate ones. Bull hockey! Tell it to the families to these Central American victims.
