The Oscars

The Oscars were once a celebration of artistry and acting achievement. No more. This gala has morphed into an exposition of egomania. When the host, in this case the unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, can call our president (ironically, one of them) old and fat, this celebration has abandoned all semblance of representing American values. Almost without their realizing it, the symbiotic relationship that Hollywood once had enjoyed with movie goers has become parasitic. We, the unwashed, the unhip, the unwise, have elected as our president someone whom these glitterati just can't accept. They are bigger and better than us ... just look at their mansions, their clothes, their awards, their private jets, their adoring fans.

All these accoutrements must mean that they are right and we, who voted for Trump, are wrong. They want our previous president back ... because he was with them and they were with him. They can't dare to think that his policies were bad for America. After all the echo chamber that is most of our media fell all over themselves saying this in many clever and concocted ways. The fact that these outlets are losing readership and viewership is disturbing only in that it presages our country drifting into a undemocratic dictatorship ... full of irredeemable deplorable people. (Of course, forgetting that these are the paying audience for their increasingly political and derivative pap.)

Of course these zombies have not lost their acting abilities ... and so they can fake sincerity with the best of the politicians ... or perhaps the other way round? They prance and pose on the red carpet (an appropriate color). They regurgitate the latest memorized mainstream media memes, not really understanding the implications. They now hate Russia but love communism. They hate borders but love their high compound fences. They hate guns but have body guards. They eschew violence but use it extensively in their movies. They hate Israel but embrace Islam while violating most of its tenets ... tenets which would call for their death or maiming. I think the term for these character discrepancies is hypocrisy.

And so these celebrated low-lives assemble at the Oscars to reinforce their delusions that they are righteous and caring. They embrace all and every "good" thing while looking down their noses at those of us who may have concerns about their Utopian visions. They will whisk up their golden statues and six figure swag bags, retire to posh pandering parties with other cocaine-sniffing celebrities ... comforted that they are righteous and we, their uninformed audiences, are stupid and wrong.

President Obama is apparently continuing to lose weight ... he has developed that Shakespearean  "lean and hungry look" ... see: Yahoo News Picture. When I first saw this picture I immediately speculated to myself that his smoking of cigarettes or even his possible cocaine use are the cause ... but then I read the comments on this Yahoo piece and was surprised to see AIDS repeatedly mentioned. Peruse these comments yourself for some disturbing speculations.

But, believing that I am a grounded person (no snickering, please), I do think that coffin nails are the probable culprit for our overly-lean POTUS.

I write the following paragraph with some trepidation ... however, I did noticed the name of Larry Sinclair in these comments ... and Googling his name came up with the following detailed documentation  ... just a bit unnerving ... see: WND Article. One might suppose that these rumors of Obama's supposed gay lifestyle have been so completely suppressed (this was my first whiff of same) that this could well hint at something deeper lurking there. I suppose we will have to wait many years to know the truth.

Afterward: Yet Hillary's attack dog, James Carville can attack with impunity the "Clinton Cash" author, Peter Schweizer as an "anti-Disney, gay bike bar Glenn Beck" (see: Breitbart Video) ... whatever that means.

Mexican Foreign Aid

This is Academy Awards weekend ... wherein Oscar, the golden statue that thespians aspire to most, has just appeared on Hollywood Boulevard … doing what actors and actresses there do best … snorting two lines of cocaine … see: Hollywood Reporter Story. This is a right-on social commentary by the street artist, Plastic Jesus, about the culture of Glitter Town and how magnanimous the people there are to our neighbors to the south, Mexico. The residents of Hollywood and its surrounds send billions of dollars of foreign aid every year to this country in the form of payment-in-kind for this white-powder elixir … see: The Wages of Sin.

Matter of fact, it is surprising that the organizers of Oscar-night … you know that orgy of self-aggrandizement … do not pack those traditional multi-thousand-dollar goodie bags proffered at these festivities … with at least a 10 cent bag of this omnipresent staff of life.

Yet these good-looking and well-appointed frauds there feel it is their moral obligation to point out cinematically any slight failings in the rest of American society.

Isn't that special?

What Are We to Think?

Angelina Jolie recently exited a limo with her husband Brad Pitt … and she had white powder all over her face … see more pictures and some cutsie journalism here: UK Telegraph Story. There is an obvious conclusion for all to jump to … even though the Telegraph won’t take us there.

I have in the past railed against the U.S. (particularly, the Hollywood) drug culture that is self-absorbed and seemingly without boundaries … see: Makes the World Go Around,  Hollywood Navel Gazing, Glitz, and The Wages of Sin. If this white powder was, as I suspect, cocaine, how many Mexicans died in cartel violence to feed this addiction? How many drug mules are in prison because they went for these fast bucks? How many East L.A. gangs thrive on such glitterati self indulgences? Do these A-list people every think of the havoc that they are causing as a result of their few moments of euphoria?

Yet most of these morons have no compunctions about lecturing the rest of us about how to live our lives …

Fish Bones

I think most of us have encountered a few bones in a delicious piece of fish … not enough to spoil the meal, but still a small blot on our prandial perfection.  This irritation also occurs in politics. Often, someone running for political office, who espouses views that are mostly congruent with our value system, still may have a few quirks that cause us to think twice.  He doesn’t believe in evolution.  She, on religious grounds, opposes abortion or gay marriage.  He once smoked marijuana or used cocaine.

The question then becomes … do we let perfection become the enemy of the good?  I believe too often we do … particularly if this political-office aspirant's quirk is belittled in the media. Isn’t it funny?  Pope Francis can be against abortion but he is for income redistribution … so he is an OK fellow.  Whereas a Tea Party member, who wants to rein in big government, yet mimics Pope Francis on this social issue, is castigated by the national media and then by the voters.

It constantly amazes me how much influence the media can have in public opinion formation.  We are witnessing this dynamic at work today in the brouhaha surrounding Governor Chris Christie.  He has a very strong personality and likes to have his political way … often the conservative way.  And yet he still won an overwhelming re-election victory in a deep blue state, New Jersey.  But, as soon as he starts edging out Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential polls, these assets are suddenly turned into liabilities.  I am fascinated watching how the media is trying to pull off this legerdemain.

We voters certainly are a fickled bunch … that’s why we too often stick with fish-fillet candidates.

Afterthought: Actually there are people who won't eat fish at all because of the bones.  The analog in this context is the single-issue voter.  ("if you don't pay for my birth control, you won'y get my vote!")  Such are the bane of the democratic process.

The Wages of Sin

Mexico is rapidly becoming a place of brutal Afghanistan-like anarchy. Recently 72 men and women were massacred in north-eastern Mexico in what is believed to be a mass execution of Central Americans hoping to slip across the United States border. See: Mexican Massacre. These killings are attributed to a Mexican drug cartel branching out into human trafficking. It is believed that the four-year total of deaths attributed to these drug cartels now exceeds 28,000. Mexico, itself, seems unwilling or unable to curb this violence. And we in this country seem conveniently to paper-over this horrendous bloodshed.

Why do we ignore it? I think that many in our ruling class and glitterati find the work of these drug cartels to be quite utile. (By glitterati I mean many in the entertainment and sports industries who have more money than they can possibly rationally spend. And by ruling class, I mean our politicians and industry titans who turn their backs on our illegal immigration problem.) These cartels supply the cocaine that the glitterati (and some in the ruling class) stuff up their noses … and offer the ruling class a steady supply of cheap labor and emotional voters who are useful to their power-hungry purposes.

What is even more galling is that our glitterati and ruling class too often pontificate on how we, who decry this massive illegal immigration and this manic drug abuse are the baddies … and that they are the compassionate ones. Bull hockey! Tell it to the families to these Central American victims.
