La La Land

The responsibility of state governments is protecting their citizens from criminals and mayhem, building and maintaining certain infrastructure, spending taxpayers' funds in a fiscally responsible manner, executing plans to ameliorate potential natural disasters (floods, droughts, wildfires, earthquakes, etc.), higher educating their children, and working to otherwise better the lives of their citizens. California falls down on most of these fronts. Recent history shows that it cannot plan and execute solutions to at least four of these duties, fiscal responsibility, wildfire dangers, droughts and protecting its citizenry.

In this blog posting I will first focus on just one of these failings ... reducing the dangers of wildfires. Quite a while ago I wrote here about how totally ineptly California handled the natural danger of wildfires there ... see: California Burning. And now, eight years later, nothing seems to have changed. Los Angeles and surroundings are in the midst of the worst wildfires ever, requiring untold millions of dollars to keep more houses from burning down ... see: LA Times Article.These. same millions,  if they had been better spent on preventative measures, could have possibly averted this crisis.

Instead Governor Moonbeam and the liberal California establishment have focused their energies and shrinking discretionary funds on most everything else ... protecting illegal aliens, gun control, transgender everything, globalism, diversity and inclusion training, fighting global warming, etc.  -- the primary responsibilities of state governments, as listed above, have taken a back seat to the liberal agenda. Is it planning for the next drought? No. Is it really protecting its citizenry from imported criminals? No. Is it taking preventive measures against future wildfires? No. Is it on a path to fiscal sanity? No. I'm not even sure it is spending much effort in preparing for the next big earthquake,

And they want to secede from the Union! This really is La La Land ...

Abetting Voter Fraud

Sample (not connected to blog text)
Illegal aliens now can get driver's licenses in California ... see: LA Times Article. Moreover, this road-to-hell state is allowing those with driver's licenses to be automatically registered to vote, see: LA Times Article. Governor Moonbeam, Jerry Brown, might just as well declare that Democrats should forever rule California ... for this extralegal move effectively does just that ... by swelling their party roles with another 2 million voters.

This reminds me of how kings once held lifetime power ... by saying from the throne that God had decreed it.

Afterthought: I've suggested the before ... maybe we should just give California back to Mexico and let it try to fix things there?

California Dreamin'

San Bernardino, Stockton, Mammoth Lakes, Compton … this is a list of the cities/towns in California that have recently gone bankrupt … or, are about to slip under the fiscal waves (see: Fox News Story). Expect many more … and, very possibly, the state of California itself will give up the ghost. Yes, spending and accounting shenanigans are partly to blame for these problems, but may I suggest a much more structural issue? Two of these bergs are in the Central Valley, the vegetable/fruit basket to this nation. Or, at least, it used to be. The economic health of this region has been greatly sacrificed to save the Delta Smelt, a small endangered fish that has caused our federal government to impose onerous water restrictions on the farmers there (see: Central Valley Water Crisis). Without water, crops won’t grow … and, without crops, farmers are impoverished … and, without agricultural income, taxes can’t be paid … and, without tax income, bergs go bankrupt. It’s that simple.

And since Central Valley agriculture was a large part of California’s fiscal strength, this short-sighted eco-suicide is one reason that the whole Golden State itself is on the ropes. Another reason is that oil exploration and extraction in California has been seriously curtailed by these same tree-hugging limousine liberals who claim to care for the downtrodden … while, at the same time, trodding them down. Will Governor Moonbeam recognize and remedy these problems? Keep California dreamin' …
