Hidin’ Biden

Peter Schweitzer has interesting comments in Breitbart about why Kamala Harris is not seen on the campaign trail more often. Other than her lack of charisma and her alienation of moderate voters, Schweitzer observes:

Biden’s team explain the former vice president’s rare public appearances as a function of concerns related to the coronavirus. Schweizer noted that if Harris were to be more visible than Biden, it would undermine the ostensible rationale for Biden’s limited visibility.”

Interesting ...

Orson Bean, RIP

Orson Bean was killed by a car today in Los Angeles at the age of 91. He was a comedian, actor and a fixture on American television game shows and Johnny Carson for decades. Above is a typical appearance. Interestingly, he also was a conservative voice and the father-in-law of the late Andrew Breitbart.

RIP.

Bannin' Bannon

"When you strike at the king, you must kill him." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is a battle of the Titans. Steve Bannon and President Trump are now at loggerheads ... and the liberal media are licking their collective chops. Ever since Bannon left as Trumps strategic advisor, he has been sniping at his enemies within, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump Junior,  and, lately, even  the President himself. As I have been collecting headlines for this blog from many Internet news sites, I have had more difficulty with the Breitbart site. Since Bannon returned to run Breitbart, he has been using this site as a personal vendetta against his Trump adversaries. Usually, the first dozen or so stories there are colored to this purpose ... and so have been discarded.

President Trump has apparently had enough and has emptied a broadside against Steve Bannon because of quotes attributed to him in Michael Wolff's new book, "Fire and Fury." Trump is saying that the reason Bannon was fired was because he was a major leaker to the media. And afterwards, his support of Judge Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race was symptomatic of his out-of-control ego ... see: Bloomberg News Story. Bannon, for his part, has, in this book called Don Jr. and Kushner "treasonous" for their meeting with the Russian attorney in Trump Tower. This internecine war is ugly and likely to get worse ... egged on by a delighted media.

But I must confess that I have endorsed Bannon's combative style in the past ... just as I have endorsed this same behavior by Trump. But his recent attack on President Trump and his family feels vindictive ... and disappoints. So these revelations, whether true or not, are not helpful to either combatant. If Bannon does not take down Trump with his brickbats, his effectiveness in the battle with the deep state will be toast. For the remainder of Trump's years he will be on the outside looking in.

Who He?

Ross Douthat is now the conservative columnist for the New York Times (since David Brooks has finally let his inner self have its head) and is a clear find. I plan to start reading him on a regular basis since his political position seems to be very close to my own ... and he expresses it so much better.

I discovered him referenced on the Breitbart Internet news site with the following op-ed snippet. If you want the link, it is  HERE ... but it offers little more than the following burning logic:

The dangers of a Hillary Clinton presidency are more familiar than Trump’s authoritarian unknowns, because we live with them in our politics already. They’re the dangers of elite groupthink, of Beltway power worship, of a cult of presidential action in the service of dubious ideals. They’re the dangers of a recklessness and radicalism that doesn’t recognize itself as either, because it’s convinced that if an idea is mainstream and commonplace among the great and good then it cannot possibly be folly.
Almost every crisis that has come upon the West in the last 15 years has its roots in this establishmentarian type of folly. The Iraq War, which liberals prefer to remember as a conflict conjured by a neoconservative cabal, was actually the work of a bipartisan interventionist consensus, pushed hard by George W. Bush but embraced as well by a large slice of center-left opinion that included Tony Blair and more than half of Senate Democrats.
Likewise the financial crisis: Whether you blame financial-services deregulation or happy-go-lucky housing policy (or both), the policies that helped inflate and pop the bubble were embraced by both wings of the political establishment. Likewise with the euro, the European common currency, a terrible idea that only cranks and Little Englanders dared oppose until the Great Recession exposed it as a potentially economy-sinking folly. Likewise with Angela Merkel’s grand and reckless open-borders gesture just last year: She was the heroine of a thousand profiles even as she delivered her continent to polarization and violence.
This record of elite folly — which doesn’t even include lesser case studies like our splendid little war in Libya — is a big part of why the United States has a “let’s try crazy” candidate in this election, and why there are so many Trumpian parties thriving on European soil.
Of course, next I had to learn a little more about this man ... he has impressive credentials ... see: Wikipedia Bio. I have no clue if he is planning to vote for Trump, but I think he is leaning anti-establishment and therefore just might. But, from what I've read so far, I'm convinced he's "not for her".

Gone With the Wind

(I must confess that I posted this entry only because of the blog title that immediately came to mind.)

A huge wind turbine collapsed in Northern Ireland in only moderate winds ... for reasons currently unknown ... see: Breitbart Article.

Doesn't this turbine look a little like Michael Mann's upside-down "hockey stick?" Perhaps it should be so memorialized?

Sexual Identity

A British citizen, Chelsea (formally Matthew) Attonley, who was born a man and then had his sex changed at his government’s expense seven years ago (costing 10,000 quid), now wants the government to change her back into a man (costing 14,000 quid) … see: Breitbart Story.

I hope the British Health Service was prescience enough to preserve his junk back in 2007.

And on a related note, Middlebury College now has opted to allow students to chose the pronoun by which they preferred to be called … see: Powerline Story . The official choices are: “him, her, them, etc.” Now I can understand the first two options … but “them” and “etc.” … what could these be? Middlebury College, please elaborate and fill us in on what other mischief you Vermont liberals have been up to.

Afterward: My wife suggested that they might have included "it" as an option ... which probably will be the choice of that British dude after her next operation.

Snake Eating Its Own Tail

Bill Maher is sounding more and more like a right-winger with every of his passing HBO shows ... see: Breitbart Video. This is a video of another of his monologues with which I can mostly agree. Can somebody ... like a snake eating its own tail ... become so liberal that one ends up being a conservative?

Ben Shapiro Decodes Obama

Ben Shapiro, wunderkind of the Breitbart news organization, has written a running commentary of President Obama’s Teleprompter reading today at the United Nations General Assembly. It is pretty much spot on … may I suggest you indulge yourself at:  Obama's UN Speech?

For those of you who, like myself, are not 'versant in Twitter short-hands, I offer the following translations of Shapiro's mnemonics:

ROFLMAO – Rolling On the Floor Laughing My Ass Off

LOLWUT --   no direct mnemonic translation, but indicates confusion about something someone else has said. I think the LOL part is the standard Laugh Out Loud and WUT stands for What?

SMDH --  Shaking My Damn Head

The only thing that I can add to Shapiro’s  comments is that I am often perplexed over how this man (or might I say his speech writers) can be so often at variance with the majority of U.S. citizenry.

Afterthought: Mika Brzeznski was absolutely organismic over this very same Obama UN speech on this morning's Morning Joe show. I guess I am at a loss as to how two people can have such diametrically different opinions about the same event. Perhaps The Shadow is at work ... remember the line from his radio show ... that he had the "ability to cloud the minds of man" ... and, in this case, woman?

October Surprise

Bob Beckel said last night on "The Five" that he believed that the Democrats had an October surprise up their sleeves to help them hold onto the Senate ... see: Breitbart Video. He suggested that it had to do with national security. Obviously this would not be the first time that the Democrats have cynically toyed with the safety of the American people in order to win elections ... remember Benghazi? How can this administration hold back on a national security issue and then cause it to surface on cue? I just hope that this possible bit of subterfuge does not misfire and cost the lives of any more Americans.

Will we be able to identify such an October surprise when it occurs? Now I know I will.
