Ye Without Sin

“Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime.” — Lavrentiy Beria (Stalin’s KGB Director)

Given all the creepy revelations that have been blanketing our news, it has become increasingly apparent that everyone is guilty of something (ye and me too kind reader) ... or, more likely, somethings.

I know it is a downer but no one is without sin. And, if someone in public life has not been so accused of something, it is likely because that person has not been a sufficient threat to someone higher up ... or, because the accused has something on the potential accuser.

So innocence is only an approximation and the result of imperfect information flows and power flexing. Knowing that someone is likely guilty of something does not mean that they are guilty of a specific malfeasance. So identifying and proving a sin is often the rub. Also such misdeeds, if discovered and proven, are then often forgiven by offsetting good deeds.

So, we are all pretty sure that Donald Trump schtuffed Stormy Daniels and that he might have been fast and loose in some of his real estate dealings. But, was he an asset (aka, a spy) for the Russians during 2016? ... a charge carrying quite a bit of Democrat overreach.  We have been reliably told, after an exhaustive investigation, that he wasn’t. And, with this cloud overhanging, he still has been all out trying to fix things for Americans after a generation of our folding like a cheap suit to the rest of the world.

But one can bet money that Mueller’s full 400 page report will be chock-a-block full of innuendo on Trump and those around him. It was a collaboration of 16 Trump haters after all. And, even after redacted by Barr, Rosenstein and even Mueller himself, I am certain that the full text will eventually leak ... probably through the New York Times. So, dear reader, we sinners will surely see more dirt on The Donald. And sinless Adam Schiff and Maxine Waters will be the first to pick up some stones.

But treason? Impossible!

Chaos

President Obama's foreign policy had been described as "strategic patience" ... which, to this observer, was a cover for his inaction. President Trump's approach can easily be called "strategic chaos" or a constant state of confusion about what Trump is going to do, say or tweet next. This strategy has also been tagged as "transactional" as Trump may not know himself exactly how the U.S. might respond to a certain event ... until the event occurs in all its nuance.

Such was the case yesterday when he appeared, in the Helsinki news conference with Putin, to trust Russian intelligence operations over his own. This misstep is understandable in the context of the FBI IG report that has demonstrated the degree to which the FBI and DOJ (and likely the CIA under Brennan) hand been working to take him down. And it continues. Rod Rosenstein at the DOJ baited the trap last Friday when he announced the obviously politically-motivated indictment of 12 Russian Intel officers for hacking the Democrats during the last presidential election ... but no Americans were wittingly involved. Trump had not, because of the timing of this revelation, been given the opportunity to vet this bomb shell ... to his regret.

Trump is finding that the negotiators on the international stage and in the DC swamp are a little tougher than New York union bosses. As a consequence, in Helsinki, Trump found himself between a rock and a hard place going into his meeting with Putin ... really a no-win, chaotic transaction ... and he didn't win ... he equivocated when he should have stood firm ...  to the gleeful delight of the DOJ, the FBI, the U.S. political establishment, the American media, and, I suspect, Putin. Trump has been sullied in what was supposed to be his strong suit, his negotiating skills. This is damaging to his ability to carry off his other challenges, trade with China, North Korean denuclearization, immigration reform, the Mueller witch hunt, etc. And he is pretty much alone on this chaotic battlefield ... with possibly only middle America to come charging over the hill bugles blaring. Will we? We will find out in November.

Afterthought: As a result of Helsinki, Trump has been called a traitor and worse by many of the unhappy parties listed above. It seems to this observer that such mania and its impact on all of international negotiations that are affected by this discord is possibly much more damaging to this country than Trump's perceived bending to Russia.

A Few Observations

- Obama's spooks, Brennam, Comey and Clapper, were so focused on undermining Trump's bid for the White House; I wonder how many real intelligence jobs went undone or underdone?

- Back in the day when salt was as valuable as gold, a bag of potato chips might have cost as much as $100

- If the Clinton Foundation and Global Initiative were not money laundering operations, how come they have gone quiescent after Hillary is no longer a shoe-in for the presidency.

- How does the DOJ's Rod Rosenstein still have a job since it has been revealed that he illegally back-dated by weeks the authorization to break down Manafort's  door at 3 AM to search his home and arrest him?

- Why is Turkey still in MATO?

- When the Federal Reserve Bank's primary missions of full employment and a 2% inflation rate are met, as they are now, it would seem that the Fed could swing to helping our balance of payments strategies and lowering the cost of financing our national debt.

Constitutional Crisis

Assuming the the primary purpose of the Mueller investigation is a slow-motion coup of Trump's presidency ... and the Rosenstein and Mueller blood lust seems to be going unsatisfied  ... and seeing that Trump seems to be winning the mud ball fight with this daring duo ... I can only conclude that a certain desperation is setting in over at the DOJ. A number of recent events I think telegraph this prosecuteral frustration:

- the unprecedented raids on Michael Cohen's home, office and hotel room

- the leaking of the 49 questions that Mueller wants to ask Trump

- Rod Rosenstein's fighting words that the DOJ will not be extorted

- Robert Mueller's recent suggestion that he is going to subpoena Trump in front of a grand jury

To me, these moves are specifically designed to annoy Trump enough to cause him to fire Rosenstein and/or Mueller ... and thus to lose the sympathy of the American public. ... and set things up for impeachment in the fall.

These tauntings seem very obviously designed to play to Trump's impulsiveness ... and, so far at least, have not triggered the desired result. Rosenstein and Mueller must hate Trump with a white-hot fury to be willing to fall on their swords to try to get this man out of office.

This, in and of itself, is a Constitutional crisis.
