Polar Bear Poop

The expected first freeze date (established over hundreds of years) for my home town here in Massachusetts is October 15th. I just looked on the Accuweather site and, guess what, tonight's low temperature is forecast at 29 degrees ... bulls eye! Also the Farmer's Almanac as well as more reliable forecasts predict that we are in store for a rather harsh winter ... nertz!

Now, I realize that one data point of weather is not the "climate" and we deniers cannot conflate the two. But the alarmists don't seem to have such compunctions ... suddenly our country's first glancing hurricane in ten years, Matthew, is proof that Al Gore is right with his cockamamie "science." So I will suggest once again that the alarmist are full of polar bear poop ... and I, personally, am more concerned with global cooling than with global warming.

Oops, global cooling is also a change in our climate ... so alarmists have it either way! I suppose next they will point to the fact that dry ice is made with carbon dioxide ...

Criminal Me

The Democrat Attorney General of the U.S.Virgin Islands is preparing a civil prosecution against 90 global-warming denier organizations charging them under racketeering statutes for propagandizing against a looming climate crisis ... see: Free Beacon Story. Whereas the real hokum is that "97% of scientists" believe that the "world has a fever" as a result of a minute incremental bit of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. And the Attorneys General of other liberal states are also fixing to follow suit in this cabal against those organizations who can be castigated as "deniers."

This sad episode reminds me very much of the bone-headed move of Pope Urban VIII in 1615 when he effectively imprisoned Galileo Galilei for his heliocentric pronouncements about our universe. This scientific genius, Galileo languished for years under house arrest for his truth telling ... until he finally died disgraced and obscured.The fact that any modern government steps in to endorse or punishes controversial scientific theories is, to me, so ignorant and Medieval as to frighten me for our future.

Let me proudly say that I have been a global warming denier for well over eight years (see: Chicken Little) who has received no support from any carbon-merchandising company or organization. I therefore offer myself up for prosecution by one or more of these antithetical Attorneys General for my heresy. And I thank the stars that the current pope, Pope Francis, no longer has the purchase to start an inquisition ... but he does have some United States secular lawyers doing his silly bidding.

Off with their Heads!

There is a dramatic rift in the chicken-little club of those who have believed that we are doomed by the modestly increasing carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere which then is supposed to be causing global warming or climate change or some other terrifying global events. What is this rift? Why even Michael Mann, the inventor of the bogus "hockey-stick effect" to dramatize global warming, has now been forced to admit that there has been no significant global warming since before the year 2000. Wow! This is not just a rift ... it is a reformation in this pseudo-religion of the warmists!

It seems that this "settled science" is finally becoming unsettled ... see: Breitbart Article ... and there will be a lot of pompous politicians and loony luminaries such as that rotund fellow called Hanging-Chad Al and that skinny president with the nickname Bathhouse Barry who are in very awkward positions. They have gone balls-out in their pronouncements about this climate science about which they really know very little ... and so they will need either to stage a hasty and humbling retreat, like Michael Mann ... or viciously attack their detractors like the Queen of Hearts in "Alice in Wonderland"... screaming "off with their heads!"

It is going to be very interesting to watch which course each of them takes ... any predictions?

Science at a Crossroads

In a hyperlink in my recent blog post on genetics, I found this poignant quote:

[John Ioannidis, a Stanford professor] argued that scientists, motivated by the pressures to publish and entangled in a web of conflicts of interest, manipulate data so often that it’s impossible to trust the body of scientific literature …

Professor Ioannidis was talking about biomedical research, but, as we have repeatedly seen, I doubt if any body of current scientific research is immune from the intoxicating draw of money and notoriety ... including climate science.

Paradoxically, global warming deniers have fewer of these same motivations (oil companies cannot be generously paying off as many of them as governments are their counterparts) and, therefore I believe, their scientific conclusions can be a little more trusted.

Afterthought: And deniers seldom achieve notoriety ... and are usually vilified by the likes of our president and the media ... scant motivation to make things up.
