Measure of the Man

Fidel Castro is dead ... joining the tens of thousands of political opponents he had put in front of his firing squads and the hundreds of thousands of his subjects who died aspiring for freedom. Did he do any good? I suppose so ... there are always accidental beneficiaries of evil. But the oppressive pall he drew over his country to justify his political obsessions is his true legacy. The fact that Cuban exiles have ignored polite respect for the dead and are celebrating in Miami demonstrates the actual measure of this man ... and his countrymen would be dancing in the streets of  Havana if there were even a smidgen of liberty there. So they revel in silence ... behind decaying walls ... still "yearning to breath free."

Even the worms will likely eschew this tyrant ...
  

Cuba No, Yankee Si

President Obummer travels to Cuba Sunday to prostrate himself in front of this decrepit monument to Communism. He, of course, has taken this opportunity in his last months in office to try to burnish his tarnished legacy by emulating Nixon's opening to China. This bit of capitulation would make some sense if there was any indication that the Castro brothers were inclined to relax their iron grip on this island nation. Unfortunately this seems not the case. Even Obummer's meeting with dissidents while there seems to be a staged production with very little chance that he will encounter the genuine articles ... see: L. A. Times Story.

In his last debate appearance in Miami, Marco Rubio excoriated Obummer for this Cuban trip saying:

Nothing will change for the Cuban people … In fact things are worse, than they were before this opening. The only result of “the opening” was that the Cuban government had more sources of money.

Lastly, do not be surprised if Obummer, while groveling in Havana, does not cave in on our relinquishing of the U.S. Guantanamo Bay naval base ... much like the then-President Jimmy Carter caved on returning the U.S. Canal Zone to Panama. This of course would force Congress to allow his clearing this prison of Islamist combatants ... which would be another sour taste of Obummer's egotistical rule.

Flag Ceremony

Secretary of State John Kerry traveled to Havana, Cuba today to mark the official opening of the United States Embassy there with a flag ceremony. He showed up in a Che Guevara tee shirt and cutaways. And, instead of hoisting the Stars and Stripes there for the first time in fifty-four years, he threw Old Glory over the embassy fence.

But before leaving to return to the United States, Kerry was rumored to be seeking to buy a large parcel of prime ocean-front property at a rock-bottom price. He also was thought to be buying a few cases of the best Cuban cigars.

Afterward: Since my wife didn't understand the reference of throwing the flag over the fence, I guess I need to explain. John Kerry, who once served in Viet Nam, became an anti-war activist (see above picture) and, in order to show his displeasure, threw his military medals over the White House fence. Years later someone visiting Senator Kerry's office saw his medals on the wall and ask where they came from. Kerry responded, "Oh, those were someone else's medals that I threw."

Presidential Library

Pretty soon President Obama has to decide where his presidential library is going to be located. There are a number of possibilities and, to help him in this decision, I would love to get the readers of this blog to weigh in on which is their preferred choice. Therefore, either choose one of the options below ... or, offer an alternative:

- Chicago, Illinois

- Tehran, Iran

- Honolulu, Hawaii

- Cambridge, Massachusetts

- Havana, Cuba

- Nairobi, Kenya

- Ferguson, Missouri

- Jakarta, Indonesia

- The Gates of Hell

Or, given his plutocratic tendencies, maybe all of them  ...

Drain

Current New York Times reporting is that, before he flew to Moscow from Hong Kong, the Chinese government “drained” Edward Snowden’s four laptops of all their data (see: NY Times Article).  Four laptops!  That’s a very large parcel of National Security Agency (NSA) secrets that Snowden took with him while he was becoming a pop hero to America’s young’ins … by outing the NSA for their imagined or real misdeeds. 

Now Snowden is in Moscow and he has missed his first flight to Havana on his way to Ecuador (see: NY Times Article).  I can’t help but suppose that, during this delay,  the Ruskies are duplicating the Chi-Coms in their downloading of all the United States’s most secret data that Snowden could get his weaselly hands on.  And I also suspect that Cuba and Ecuador will be duplicating this tapping of our twitty traitor's cyber-tree.  United States’ intelligence operations have not been sabotaged … they have been devastated …  The worst part is that we probably don't know exactly what data has been compromised!

And where is President Obama on this intelligence catastrophe … hiding under his desk once again so as to not show his hand to the youth of America?  I don’t think he can blame this one on a YouTube video.

I have previously written a blog on this Snowden incident (see: Excluded Middle) in which I suggested that Eddy Baby should be tried for treason and, if found guilty, he be executed. 

I think I was too easy on him.
