Tyranny

First read and reflect on this: Today Article.

Every so often there occurs a benign form of governance ... but, be not mistaken, almost always we end up under an oppressive tyranny. — Anon.

Freedom

Freedom is a butterfly in a windstorm of tyranny. If this frail aspirant lives through this trauma, it morphs into a fierce bald eagle. — Anon.

Glockophobia

A Glock handgun

"Only criminals, dictators and Democrats fear armed citizens" -- Mostly Cajun blog

A gun is not just an equalizing weapon between physically weaker persons and ones who would do them harm ... but an armed citizenry also keeps its government from oppressing its people. Those who pooh-pooh this latter possibility are ironically usually the same ones who claim that Trump wants to become a despot. Such thwarting of possible tyranny was the genius of our founding fathers when they penned our Second Amendment ... a right only subservient to that of freedom of speech in the FirstAmendment to our prescient Constitution.

This freedom understanding is built into the DNA of most Americans and those trying to annul this right need to rethink their Glockophobia.

UN Scorecard

Should the United States keep supporting the Utopian notion of a benign world government which will save our planet from the rigors of war, illness, poverty and tyranny? Well the United Nations has been around for over 70 years and needs to receive an evaluation of its efficacy. Here, thanks to my wife, are a set of pluses and minuses that I think pretty much tell the story:

The 9 greatest UN achievements (see: The Flame Tally for details):
  • Food aid
  • Aid to refugees
  • Protecting children
  • Peacekeeping
  • Running elections
  • Reproductive health and population management
  • War crime prosecutions
  • Fighting AIDS
  • Bringing invisible issues to the forefront

The UN's 10 greatest failures (see: List Verse Tally for details):
  • Terrorism
  • Nuclear proliferation
  • Sri Lanka
  • Child sex abuse scandal
  • Veto power
  • Srebrenica massacre
  • Khmer Rouge
  • The Cold War
  • Darfur
  • Rwanda

(I could easily add another half-dozen negatives ... including its mishandling of the Ebola outbreaks.)

Does this tally sheet justify the billions that we spend yearly on this bloated and corrupt institution?

Cuba No, Yankee Si

President Obummer travels to Cuba Sunday to prostrate himself in front of this decrepit monument to Communism. He, of course, has taken this opportunity in his last months in office to try to burnish his tarnished legacy by emulating Nixon's opening to China. This bit of capitulation would make some sense if there was any indication that the Castro brothers were inclined to relax their iron grip on this island nation. Unfortunately this seems not the case. Even Obummer's meeting with dissidents while there seems to be a staged production with very little chance that he will encounter the genuine articles ... see: L. A. Times Story.

In his last debate appearance in Miami, Marco Rubio excoriated Obummer for this Cuban trip saying:
Nothing will change for the Cuban people … In fact things are worse, than they were before this opening. The only result of “the opening” was that the Cuban government had more sources of money.
See: The Guardian Story for more details.

Lastly, do not be surprised if Obummer, while groveling in Havana, does not cave in on our relinquishing of the U.S. Guantanamo Bay naval base ... much like the then-President Jimmy Carter caved on returning the U.S. Canal Zone to Panama. This of course would force Congress to allow his clearing this prison of Islamist combatants ... which would be another sour taste of Obummer's egotistical rule.

Today’s Thought

“if you like your health insurance, you can keep your health insurance.”

"[We] underscore the need for urgent action to combat the threats from climate change, protect American citizens and communities today, and build a sustainable future for our kids and grandkids."

A government which, in times of peace, lies to its people for its own profit… is not a government … it is a tyranny. -- A Blogger
