Pushback on China

My Hat in the Ring

The presidential race is getting crowded on the Democrat side. Every day there seems a new candidate. It is possible that as many as 30 wanna-bes will be running in the 2020 primary. So why not? Today, I too will be declaring as a Social Media Socialist. My campaign slogan will be “pot in every chicken” and I promise that no one will go to bed unimpaired ... possibly hungry though.

I am seeking the endorsement of the Black Lives Matter Movement, #MeToo-ers, Maduro, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Chelsea Clinton, Vladimir Putin and the Harvard faculty. I also seek the support of the LGBs .. but not the Ts ... they are ruining women’s sports and crowding our restrooms.

I am starting a campaign finance committee headed by Anthony Weiner and a GoFundMe page. My monetary objective is two billion dollars or three bitcoins. I also promise a Green New Deal but with airplanes and hamburgers ... and without Brussels sprouts. If elected, I also promise to lock up every other politician and build a wall across the Canadian border ... and Trudeau will pay for it.

I realize I am a little old to be doing this, but then so are many of the other candidates. And besides, I think the world will end in only seven years. But I will pick a youngster as a running mate to compensate ... perhaps Weiner or Jussie Smollett?

I think the hat I am throwing in this presidential ring will be embroidered with MAAA — Make America Awful Again.

Savant Idiot

Larry Summers, onetime Treasury Secretary, President of Harvard (who left under a gaff cloud) and now a cable-news chattering head, last week poo-pooed President Trump's attempt to re-balance our international trade. He said on CNBC that he buys lots at his supermarket but it buys nothing from him ... and this is not a disaster. Thus, h,  a renowned economist, is implying that our huge trade deficits with China are not a worry.

To hear such liberal tripe from such a powerful voice in American policy making shocked me to the core ... and suggest why our country has been asleep at the switch for the last 25 years. Now, I am not a PhD. in economics, but I do know that Summer's has his bubble-head in the clouds on at least this issue ... for these reasons:

- Summer's supermarket analogy is misusing microeconomics. Asserting that this micro conclusion applies to macroeconomics is another gaff by one who clearly should know better.

- If Summers were employed by the supermarket he shops at ... and it bought his services as the other half of his analogy, then let's finish this lesson. If Summers spent much more there than he earned (like the current China trade analogy) them this supermarket would be the classic "company store" ... to which Larry would soon "owe his soul."

- The U.S. has been running growing trade defies with China for decades ... last year totaling about $375 billion. China then uses this sovereign wealth to but American assets. It would not take many more years of such an imbalance before China would effectively own the United States -- not a circumstance any of us (including Summer's I assume) would want to impose on our issue.

QED: Larry Summers is a savant idiot.

Lie-a-watha

Massachusetts Senatot Elizabeth Warren (aka, Lie-a-watha) has a reputation for stretching the truth ... like when she claimed to be part Indian to garner a law professorship at UPenn and then later at Harvard. Since then, she has parlayed this fake ethnicity into becoming the senior senator from the Bay State ... but has quietly dropped this native-American fantasy.

Now she is reveling in make-believe once again ... claiming to have been sexually harassed as a "baby law professor" in Texas. Her story was first unraveled in the Boston Globe of all places and now is fully exposed for her mendacity in the Boston Herald.

Like many of Warren's breathless pronouncements, this story smacks of hyperbole (or lies, if it were Trump). Her sexual "predator" clearly didn't chase her around the desk ... he was much older and had had polio. She clearly was not "shaking" because she joked about this incident when she lauded him at his funeral. All in all, Lie-a-watha wanted to jump again onto the "me too" self-promotional bandwagon. She is clearly a poseur all the way to the top feather on her war bonnet.

To be  fair, it's not that Senator Warren may not have some good ideas ... but when her initial heritage premise was a fraud ...  followed up by her additional fake grandstandings ... somehow she loses quite a bit of her luster.

Transomania

Elizabeth Warren
A blue-eyed female white Senator self-identifies as an American Indian. An obviously Caucasian woman claims she is black. A former male Olympic champion self-identifies as a woman. And on and on.

Is it possible that this current transomania (ability to self-identify as anything your very little heart desires) has opened the door to utter mayhem?

- Can I self-identify as a double PH.D. and become a professor emeritus at Harvard?

- Can I self-identify as impoverished and get an EBT card and an Obamaphone?

- Can I self-identify as a Medal of Honor winner and be buried in Arlington Cemetery?

- Can I self-identify as Meryl Streep and claim some Oscar statues?

- Can I self-identify as Sully Sullenberger and fly a 787?

- Can I self-identify as a Puerto Rican and pay no personal federal income taxes?

- Can I self-identify as an illegal immigrant and not have to get a driver's license or car insurance?

This is fun ... perhaps I will claim them all ... and you can't stop me ... otherwise you are a bigot and transophobic! And, of course, Hellery and Oprah will denounce you and Bruce Springsteen will never play another concert in your state! So there!

Gene Genome

Mind-boggling discussions are being held at Harvard about the possibility of synthesizing a complete human genome ... in other words, playing God by creating test-tube human life to our liking ... see: New York Times Article. Basically, scientists think that, within 10 years, they will be able to not just read (which they have been able to do for years), but write the entire three billion DNA sequences comprising the human genome ...  a remarkable achievement and one that means that the resulting manufactured human would be not the result of natural selection, but of unnatural selection.

The thing I am worried about is that it is believed that only about 10% of these chemical pairs have real use in the resulting human. The other 2.7 billion are effectively inert. What if things are more complicated than that? What if some pairs only have meaning in the presence of other pairs? It seems immensely wasteful for evolution to have spent so much effort at all these meaningless encodings. Science should have a much more detailed knowledge of our genome before we begin creating new life.

And , if we did have perfect knowledge, it is quite probable that, when reconstructing say Einstein's 3 billion chemical pairs, one or more DNA sequence errors will also be made. What might we have then? Frank-Einstein? I am not saying that such science should be shut down ... because we have repeatedly seen that the March of Science cannot be stopped by ethical concerns. Science must explore the unexplored ... no matter what the consequences. I just think that we should trod very carefully into this new arena lest we do something that cannot be undone.

Perhaps when the time does come, we might name the first fully manufactured human ... Gene Genome?

Cheap Suit

Harvard University is folding like a cheap suit ... once again. After protesters targeted Harvard for using the term "house masters" for leaders of its 12 college complexes ... apparently suggesting slavery to these pudding-headed students, Harvard has relented and now changed this title to "faculty deans" ... see: Daily Caller Story.

Once again the richness of the English language is being diluted by the slightest suggestion of past national sins. Is that old British nautical term "master" now banned in any context? Are young boys' salutations on letters now to be "Young Boy" instead of "Master?" What will the finest carpenters, "master carpenters," now be called? What about Master Degrees for heavens sake? Are Harvard and other universities going to relable them as ... "Slaveholder Degrees?" Will the Mona Lisa no longer be called an "art masterpiece?" And, lastly, what will we now call sexual self gratification?

Enough of this linguistic silliness! Shame on you Harvard! You are supposed to be one of the guardians of higher learning ... are you now just the guardian of cheap suits?

Bile Green

Can Dartmouth sink any lower? For a rarity at the college on the hill, a conservative was invited to speak to the undergraduates. Apparently the college Republicans had invited Rick Perry, outgoing governor of Texas, to speak at an open event and he drew a number of anal-sex questions from the audience ... some of which were printed on a flyer that was passed out by a sophomoric sophomore, Ben Packer. A typical example was, "Do you [Rick Perry] dislike bootysex because the peeny goes in where the poopy comes out?"

Another green weenie in the audience, senior Emily Sellers, asked the governor if he might engage in anal sex for a large campaign contribution. Wow … such disrespect from seemingly liberal artists! And freshman, Timothy Messen, snidely queried if Rick Perry thought that homosexuals were equivalent to alcoholics. Obviously not everyone in the audience was so crass, but to read more of the details of this sour event see: Breitbart Story.

Because of a recent similarly scatological story coming out of Harvard ... see: UK Daily Mail Story, and an overwhelming vote of the Dartmouth faculty to abolish fraternities and sororities, I was commenting to my wife that college professors must live in a parallel universe ... and she agreed. They must have dispatched pedagogical space ships to bring some of their more naively insipid students along with them.

Obviously, the Dartmouth administration cannot and should not punish these miscreant students like it once attempted to stifle campus conservatives for "vexatious" speech. But it surely would be appropriate to embarrass them (and a few of the more notorious faculty members) in some public way.
