How It Happened (Reprise)

Once upon a time at the North Pole  a week before Christmas, Santa Claus’s elves went on strike for higher pay ... and so, Mrs. Claus had to spend most of her day finishing up the toys for all the world’s children.

Then two days before the big night, a stomach flu struck the raindeer stable ... requiring Mrs. Claus to muck out all their stalls twice a day.

Next, Santa came down with a bad cold ... so between all these other chores Mrs. Claus had to climb the stairs multiple times a day to bring St. Nick hot tea with lemon and honey ... and bowls of chicken soup.

But Christmas Eve finally came and the elves agreed ...  for double-time wages ... to load up all the toy bags and fill the sleigh ... the reindeer were full of Kaopectate ... and Santa was well enough to begin his annual sleighride.

After he was off, Mrs. Claus sank, exhausted, into her easy chair. But, just then, there was a tiny knock on the front door. With a sigh, Mrs. Claus pulled herself to her feet and, annoyed, opened the door.

There, dusted with a new-fallen snow, was a beautiful little angel holding a freshly-cut fir tree. She said to Mrs. Claus, “What do you want me to do with this Christmas tree, Mrs. Claus?”

And so, boys and girls, that is why we often see an angel stuck atop of a Christmas tree.

STAND UP FOR MRS. CLAUS!
