Fingers Crossed

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is on its way to conquer space. This infrared spectrum telescope will have up to 100 times the magnification as the Hubble telescope and will be able to see back in time to within a few hundred million years of the Big Bang. While the Hubble is in near-Earth orbit, the Webb will really be in orbit around the sun but synchronized with the Earth’s orbit … and a million miles further out.

Since the Webb has a very complicated unfolding protocol, keep your fingers crossed!

Fascinating story … for all the details see: Scientific American article and JWST.NASA site.

Afterthought: if in the next 50 to 100 years we build a telescope that can see all the way back to the Big Bang, will we all then turn to pillars of salt?

STAND UP FOR SPACE EXPLORATION!
