An Alternative Reality

The Resistance's spittle-flecked silliness stems to derive mostly from a rabid reluctance to live in Trump's alternative reality ... a reality shared by much of the world's voiceless  majority. 

But a reality that stomps on many of the elite's sacrosanct lemmas (global warming, socialism, world government, open borders, diversity, "free" trade, China '25, inclusion, globalism, etc.) ... from which they have drawn much solace and pelf.  

This dissonance among much of the ruling class worldwide is either going to bring us down ... or introduce a new era of enlightenment and realignments ... a new New World Order.  I'm banking on the latter.

Uncle Sap

The U.S. has helped fight the world's hot wars with considerable cost in lives and treasure. We have poured resources into rebuilding the battlefield results thereof. We have fought and won the Cold War. We have mortgaged our future to be the policeman to the world. We have played along with this world-government charade which became nothing more than a feather bed for the world's bureaucrats ... accomplishing little.

We have become the world's reserve currency at the considerable competitive disadvantage t to our industry. We have entered into trade deals that emasculated our once-powerful mercantilism. We have been an extraordinary benefactor to the poorer nations of the world. We have been the leading innovative force for over a century only to see our rights to this innovation stolen. We have shown the world, when they have chosen to watch and listen, the superiority of a free capitalist society.  Many of our leaders have stood for virtue when many other world leaders have stood for vice. We have opened our borders to the refugees of the world often to be taken advantage of or even hated for this charity.

Now we have a leader who says we can no longer do all these things without the possible cost of our existence. And many who have gladly benefited from our past sacrifices pillory us for our current realism, lecture us, defame us, threaten us economically ... and, oh yes, forget to thank us for all that we have sacrificed for them.

Moreover, half of our dumbed-down citizenry agree with this callowness by much of the rest of the world. We truly are Uncle Sap.

Democrat Manifesto

The Democrat party has moved far left in the last decade ... to a point that would be unrecognizable to the party of JFK or even Bill Clinton. It's as though George Soros has tattooed his manifesto on the donkey's rump. However, not all recent Blue candidates are using this manifesto as their platform because the smarter ones realize that it is a loser. But, once elected if elected, Nancy Pelosi tells them how to vote.

The question becomes then, how much of this Democrat manifesto will be visible in the next presidential election and maybe even in this Fall's midterm elections? But be mot mistaken, this is the guts of their agenda. So let's get on to what this manifesto contains:

- Single-payer healthcare
- World government
- Destroy the U.S. coal industry
- Increase third-world migration into America
- Higher income taxes (to redistribute wealth)
- Sanctuary cities and states
- "Strategic patience"  (passive foreign policy)
- Open national borders
- Nuclear disarmament or at least unilateral reduction
- Crony capitalism
- Promoting Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA
- Mote government transfer payments (welfare)
- Fewer illicit drug laws and lesser punishments ("sentencing reform")
- Facilitation of illegal voting
- Weaker military
- Removing Civil War (and other historic) statues
- Free higher education
- Diversity quotas and more "inclusion" of hyphenated Americans
- Nullifying the Second Amendment
-Taxpayer funded abortion and birth control
- Free but not necessarily fair (multilateral) trade
- Carbon taxes and much tighter emissions standards
- "Green" energy production at the expense of  fossil fuels
- More government regulations
- LBGTQ and transgender rights advocacy
- Suppression of "offensive" speech

This list is not by a long shot comprehensive ... and they are not all excessively malignant ... but. taken as a whole, they would "fundamentally transform" this country ... if we survive at all.

World Government

World government is a chimera. It is highly unlikely that mankind can design an equitable governing mechanism spanning our entire globe with such a diversity of moralities and cultures ... at the very least for centuries. Unfortunately many see this as our destiny and, consequently, we should experience a number of false starts (including the current UN sham) .... some of which likely will be devastating.

With so many trying to bring it down, the fact that the American experiment in national governance is still working is surely a minor miracle.

False Prophets

True prophets are rare birds. False prophets are much more common. They often extrapolate from small initial breakthroughs (and wishful thinking) into grandiose forecasts. (I know because I am often quite guilty of same.) There is a element of grandstanding to these avians as their wild-eyed pronouncements often make national headlines. But when they crash and burn, these false prophets are nowhere to be found. Here are a few of the current crop of what seem to be mostly false memes:

Autonomous Cars -- I just heard the CEO of Ford Motor say on TV that by 2021 we will have cars with no pedals or steering wheels driving around "designated areas." By this date I may no longer be allowed to drive ... and, even if I were, I would not entrust my life to some Silicon Valley software engineer's sense of the reality of the road.

Robot Takeover -- If Malthus taught us nothing, it was that simple extrapolations of technologies seldom approximate the truth. And certainly what I know about simulated knowledge suggests to me that artificial intelligence will never be fully sapient. This is all the stuff of science fiction writers ... fictional.

Global Warming -- False prophets predict things that don't come true ... just like the predictions of global warming (aka climate change) have not materialized. But then, altering the raw data to make it appear like these predictions are accurate is demagogic. Besides anyone who thinks we can accurately take the temperature of our entire planet is a tad nutso.

Anthropomorphic Animals -- Long before PETA, there was the feeling that all animals were human-like creatures in a different form ... and this belief is metastasizing into the desire for Constitutional guarantees for animals. Certainly the movie "Bambi" went a long way in creating this meme ... when Bambi's father was shot by the evil hunters. Bambi's mother then consoling Bambi made total sense to us kids ... and millions of young minds were forever prejudiced into this notion that animals were effectively "human.". But humans have incisors for a reason ... and it is not to tear into lentils.

Green Energy -- All green energy projects (except hydroelectric and atomic) are basically uneconomic when compared the carbon-based production ... and may be so forever. Thank God we had hundreds of millions of years of laying down of hydrocarbons on Earth. Solar and wind powered energy production survive only because of government subsidies. When we eventually run out of hydrocarbons ... hundreds of years hence ... we should have suitable replacements. Man is a very resourceful type.

World Government --This was Woodrow Wilson's wet dream which has been evolving now for a hundred years, but is about to come acropper with the growing realization that it is an expensive, self-absorbed, undemocratic, prejudiced, and ineffective bureaucratic nightmare. If world government ever does come about, I believe it will not grow out of our current United Nations.

Regenerated Organs -- Using your own stem cells to regenerate one or more of your organs is a technology that I do believe will eventually come about ... however when this might occur is maddeningly unpredictable. Perhaps in ten more years?

Pie in the Sky

Color me skeptical ... but there are a number of assumed developments that somehow appear to me to be more wishful thinking than real possibilities. Call me a Luddite if you wish, but somehow pouring emotion or resources into these chimeras seems to be somewhat futile ... at least for the next few hundred years. Here are my top ten candidates:

1) Colonizing of Mars or other planets (or even commercial space travel)

2) Effective world government

3) Our current existence being just a simulation in some giant future computer

4) Human head transplants

5) Being able to control our climate

6) Humans defying death ... or at least living for many hundreds of years

7) Ubiquity of self-driving cars, trucks and buses

8) Resurrecting of frozen corpses

9) Even close to sufficient sustainable energy production from wind and solar

10) Robots taking over from humans (or killing us off)

Sovereignty

There is a classic battle in governance between the amount of sovereign power that resides at each level of government ... local, state, national and on up to the ultimate, world government. The United States went through paroxysms during its founding regarding how to allocate powers between the states and the federal government. The solution was resolved in the Tenth Amendment stating that "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." What complicates this power give and take is how this sovereign power is achieved ... by a democratic process, by subterfuge, by the sword, or by the claim that God/Allah/etc. bestowed it.

Enter Brexit, this Thursday's vote in Great Britain as to whether this country will exit the European Union, an unelected quasi-government that has usurped many of the sovereign prerogatives that were once reserved for the British people. All sorts of liberals in the U.S. including Obummer and Hellery ... and even members of the Conservative party in Britain, including the Prime Minister, David Cameron, are urging that the Thursday vote results be "stay."

What insanity would cause peoples to give up rights and powers to a bunch of bloated bureaucrats in Brussels who are constantly trying to force immigrants upon them and onto their welfare roles? And for that matter, why would the American people allow any of our rights to be transferred to those truculant tsars on the East River in New York City, the United Nations? This failed attempt at world government has, as far as I can determine, done nothing significant for the betterment of mankind other than spending mountains of (mostly U.S.) money on five-star hotels and expensive meals.

This gives me an idea. Can we, here in America, have a vote to exit the U.N. which, after a little research, I find was not mentioned in our Constitution? It would seem to me that the surrender of any of our inalienable rights to these mostly third-world hangers-on should have required a democratic process ... namely an amendment to our Constitution ... which I don't recall happening.back in October of 1945. Maybe we should have this seemingly Constitution-required  vote now?

Obama Fatigue

I am in a bit of a funk over the Obama administration's two recent victories ... obtaining fast track trade authority from the Senate (the precursor to greater power for it to pursue its world government agenda) and its SCOTUS victory permitting Obamacare subsidies for states not providing health-care exchanges. This fatigue is exacerbated by the vindictive war on our South by this administration and the national media.

President Obama obviously has a great many scalps hanging from his belt ... particularly considering his obvious incompetence and indifference to popular opinion. He has lived a bit of a charmed life ... hopping from ice floe to ice floe ahead of the pursuing racist hounds (yes, Sheldon, this is sarcasm.)

To add to my ennui, the Supreme Court has just legalized same-sex marriage. Once again I am on the wrong side of history. I guess the millennials (that group who can't name our vice president) now totally rule.
