Remember the bearded lady, the sword swallower, the human skeleton, the chicken-head-biting geek, etc. of yesterday's circus midway? Pretty much all of them are gone. Yet with this passing of carnivals, there still seems a fundamental need for people to view the weirder side of humanity ... the sideshow freaks.

Never fear, modern media has stepped into this vacuum with the likes of Kim Kardashian (Bubble-Butt Lady), Caitlyn Jenner (Half Man-Half Woman), and Rachel Dolezar (The Human Negative). I fully expect now to see over the next months and years a replacement repertoire of these old sideshow freaks resurrected though the phenomenon of our new media outlets. The only real difference is that these neo-freaks will live not on the edge of society as they once did ... but now near its center, making millions of dollars.

Gender Benders

Caitlyn (nee, Bruce) Jenner is now a happy female and a national celebrity ... but, if things go according to past trends, there probably will be second thoughts about his/her sex reassignment ... particularly if he chooses to go all the way with penis-removal surgery. As a result of all his notoriety I have been reading up on this subject ... and found some disturbing news. A great many of these gender transmogrifications don't end as expected. Very often, after the party (bender?) is over, comes the hangover ... see: Breitbart Story. In fact gender confusion is quite frequently the cause of deep depression even after such reassignments ... and is a leading cause of suicide.

Our society has become so very permissive that we seldom worry about the ultimate consequence of our liberalism. There are numerous examples of same, but the growth of the welfare state ... and its dire consequences to our family life and morality ... seems to this observer to be the best example. When we condone certain behaviors, surprise, surprise, we get more of it. Being "judgmental" is now a greater sin than being permissive. Perhaps Caitlyn Jenner will not suffer second thoughts about his momentous decision. I hope not. But already he seems to have driven a wedge between himself and his previous family ... see: Breitbart Story.
