Urban Chaos

Heard an interesting analysis by a guest on the Tucker Carlson Show last night describing why the urban chaos seems to be engulfing our country ... let me see it I can reproduce and expand on this inspired insight here:

Quite obviously unpunished violence, riots and looting are infecting many of our major formally-beautiful cities: Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Atlanta, New York (I have to stop ... I’m getting myself depressed.) Anyhow, this malignant dystopia is clearly spreading unchecked ... much even encourage by these cities’ burgers. This insanity is perplexing ... it long ago stopped being about George Floyd and black lives ... yet there is one possible explanation — Donald Trump’s winning the presidency was an existential shock to liberals ... a shock so extreme that it demanded retribution.

This retribution has taken many forms ... Obamagate, the Mueller witch-hunt, the Trump impeachment, the deep-state Resistance, the media’s spittle-flecked mania, the Cancel Culture, a political swing to the looney left (many otherwise sensible friends now declare themselves as Socialists), defunding the police ... and now the Clockwork Orange dystopia as described above. All these damaging memes were and are mis- and self-directed to atone somehow for the sin of Trump’s ascendency. And the punishers are trying to destroy not just Trump but, failing that, befouling that which Trump cherishes ... his country. (And they are also lashing out at those of us who voted him into office ... an easier target)

This is almost a mass psychosis but, if not that, it’s certainly a mass neurosis. If you will permit me an analogy ... all you agitated anti-Trumpers can be likened to disturbed teenagers who injure themselves with razor blades ... the “cutters” ...  because they (you?) can’t injure the real target of their (your?) rage ... the Orangeman ... so they (you?) injure themselves (yourselves?).  After all, what is much of  this “white privilege” sackcloth-and-ashes BS but a form of self-loathing.

You see, all this urban chaos might be simply explained!


STAND UP FOR AMERICA!

Stakeholders

Adam Smith, proponent of capitalism

Joe Biden has promised to put an end to “stockholder capitalism.” This is shocking enough, but his apologists claim that he is merely swearing to reorder the priorities of American companies away from putting stockholders first in the list of stakeholders. (I’m not certain that his assessment is accurate ... maybe at the hedge funds ... but not “real investors.”)

Now, stakeholders are normally defined as customers, employees, ownership (including stockholders), management and the community (also implying the environment). Now, different political factions place different priorities on these stakeholders needs ... obviously the Greens put the environment first and capitalism puts the customer first (Adam Smith’s “invisible hand”). I’m not sure, but I suspect that Biden’s handlers want to put the employees first to buy votes. And we all know the unfortunate trend for the last 50 years to put management wants and needs at the top.

My own prioritization (learned the hard way) would be:

Customers ... because without customers you have no revenue ... and no corporate future

Employees ... because good employees create good products and services which bring in the customers

Management  ... because good management attracts good employees ... as long as the management isn’t too greedy which limits the long-term fiscal viability of the company

Community ... a company needs to be a responsible member of the community in which it operates ... but not a panderer (like so many today) which eventually will be self-defeating

Stockholders (ownership) ... if the above are all done well and responsibly, the value of the company will continue to increase. This is what capitalism is all about.

So, by my rankings, Biden might need to do nothing! But, I suspect, he and his merry band of Sociaists may mean something more onerous.

Obvious Truth

When governments think they know better and meddle with free (and not dishonest) markets, their citizenry almost always suffer ... sometimes catastrophically. Too bad that Socialist boneheads such as AOC, Bernie Sanders and many Democrat candidates have not learned this obvious truth.

Super Money

A few decades ago, a book called “Super Money” (by George Goodman, aka “Adam Smith”) described how American entrepreneurship was creating super money every time their start-up companies issued initial public offerings (IPOs) and then the prices of these new stocks went up ... manufacturing enormous wealth out of thin air. New products and services are imagined, created and marketed to people to propel these new companies to success. This is the power of our free-market economic system in a nutshell.

Dear reader, this is a magical way that the “invisible hand” of capitalism creates wealth ... lots and lots of wealth. Jeff Bazos has, by himself created almost a trillion dollars of super money. And he and his ex-wife have been rewarded with about 10% of this super wealth. This is not accidental. It has happened over and over to American go-getters to create our “golden city on the hill.” And yes this wealth that capitalism creates does get re-distributed to others as it is spent ... and these new companies hire people ... and their taxes pay for our government and to build infrastructure. (Hear that Elizabeth Warren and BHO?)

But there is always a problem wrapped up in capitalism. That is that the dispersion of this super money doesn’t happen fast enough and to the taste of many proto-Socialists. Jealousy, dear reader jealousy, rears it’s ugly head ... fanned by the likes of Bernie Sanders and his fellow travelers. (Funny though how Bernie seems to be enjoying his entry into the cult of millionaires.) But this super money does get spread around ... which is why America is so wealthy and can afford our social programs ... and so is where many of the worls’s needy want to live ... and some even want to be given the opportunity to prosper like Bezos, the son of Cuban immigrants.

But when these social programs become more important than capitalism and its super money ... that is when the golden goose is strangled. Funny how so few people ... even many recipients of super money ... understand this simple truth.

The New Pariahs

The American liberal elites have become very inclusive … illegal immigrants, street protesters, metro-sexuals, rappers, Jews (in America), gay marriages, Muslims, Cubans (in Cuba), Socialists, the Shake Shack, Native Americans, gender benders … are now quite acceptable, even celebrated. However, with this redefining of the circle of inclusion, there seems no longer room for other population categories. It’s as though for every new group invited in, another group must be exiled. May I offer a few examples of these new pariahs?

- Mormons

- Southerners (particularly Texans)

- Polish -Americans

- Gun owners
- McDonalds

- Wall Street bankers

- Cubans (in America)

- Jews (in Israel)

- Football jocks

- The police

- Fundamentalist Christians

- Entrepreneurs (except in Silicon Valley)

It’s very much as though “diversity” is a zero-sum game …
