Self-loathing Insanity

America seems to be becoming unglued. But this is just a thin veneer of our elitists who thought that they ran things ... yet have been bamboozled at every turn by our undeserving president. As a result, they are thrashing about in a frenzy of self-loathing and self-destructive insanity.

Don’t believe me? Just look at the “peaceful protests” centered in the cities run by these lunies ... attempting to destroy everything that is sacred ... and looting what is left.

And powerful pols are springing the lawless from prisons, protecting foreign criminal interlopers, pushing for eliminating the police and all hydrocarbons, selling out our country, tearing down our historic monuments, kneeling down in front of anarchists in some misguided hope that they will like them, killing a half million unborn babies a year, saying that there are no longer genders, eliminating even rational drug laws, committing treason to maintain their grip on the levers of power and money, subverting justice in the name of justice ... and claiming all sorts of irrational rants are rational.

If this thin layer of our elite society were a person, “it” would be in paroxysms of manic frustration, foaming at the mouth, in a straight jacket, thrashing around in a padded cell ... demanding succor from its perplexed guards.

Fortunately, although they have the megaphones of the equally manic media, these spittle-flecked grape-nuts are quite few in number and do not represent America. Americans are the guards in the previous analogy waiting for their shifts to be up so they can go home for a burger and a beer ... and play catch with the kids.

Pooh-Pooh

Gun grabbers pooh-pooh the notion that our Second Amendment was designed to prevent the growth of a repressive central government which would then deny us our other basic Constitutional freedoms.

Please try to convince the protesters in Hong Kong, Caracas and Tehran that such tyranny can never occur there even though they are not allowed any effective defense.

Acid Test

There is a clear acid test to differentiate the foreign policies of Obama and Trump ... and that is now occurring in Iran. There, demonstrations are getting more deadly every day. What started as economic protests have blossomed into full-throated anti-mullah uprisings. The Iran government is a very repressive anti-American and anti-Israel theocracy ... trying to establish Shiite hegemony throughout the Sunni Middle East. However, Trump-style populism is even creeping into Tehran ... causing distrust of its leadership. The Persian government there is even forced now to augment its police and special forces with Gaza and Hezbollah Arabs.

When the Green Revolution took place after disputed elections in Iran back in 2009, President Obama turned his back on this infant insurrection ... and it died as did many of its supporters. Obama then went on to suck up to Iran's despotic mullahs by negotiating a horrible one-sided nuclear pact that gave Iran back $150  billion in frozen assets and an easy path to atomic weaponry ... as well as some other goodies ... Obama's $1.7 billion cash ransoming of American prisoners, his secret letters to the mullahs, his allowing the humiliation of U.S. sailors and his calling off the drug-enforcement dogs from Iran-backed Hezbollah ... all to placate, for some mysterious reason, a major sponsor of Islamic terrorism.

In opposition to what many consider to be capitulation on Obama's part, Trump is vigorously supporting these recent protests by the Iranian populus ... a populus that generally supports America. Trump has tweeted his enthusiastic endorsement of these mew Iranian insurgents ... saying the 'time has come' for these thuggish mullahs to be overthrown. Hopefully other nations will fall in line behind Trump.

So, the acid test now presents itself ... is Trump right to go with the Iranian populus ... or was Obama's mullah boot-licking the right policy? We should know the answer within Trump's first term in office.

Cowed

The new president of Dartmouth College, Phil Hanlon was recently initiated into the ways of hyphenated student protests when the “Concerned Asian, Black, Latin@, Native, Undocumented, Queer, and Differently-Abled students” aka, Freedom Budget (a name as nutty as these students), recently occupied his office with a list of 72 demands … which apparently include some knee-slappers. For instance they insisted that Dartmouth must include one "queer studies" class in every department (such as “Queer Projective Geometry” and “Queer Inorganic Chemistry”). I say “apparently,” because I started doing research, trying to find their full list of 72, but then said to myself, “why should I indulge these children with my efforts? Isn’t this protest just an infantile cry for attention … which they clearly don’t deserve?” So I didn’t.

Anyhow, this was not a shining moment for Dartmouth’s pixy prexy … a Dartmouth-graduated math major like myself. He did not literally kick these militant students out of his office and have them sent to Coventry. Instead he and his Dean of the College, Charlotte Johnson, pampered these wing-nuts with negotiations and then let some of them bivouac in his office for 48 hours. How humiliating for him and for Dartmouth College … not a shining start for his new presidency. If you want to read more on this tempest in a teapot see the following from the Wall Street Journal.
I think that the real lesson to be drawn from this disruption … and other recent travesties … like the forced resignation of Mozilla’s CEO, Brendan Eich, for a single political donation (see: Information Week Story) … is that acceding to the irrational demands of those hyphenated groups only makes matters worse. Arthur Miller had it right when he compared the McCarthy era to the Salem witch trials in his play, "The Crucible." There are times when an illogical fervor grabs a society’s psyche and, if nobody pushes back, can result in very scary consequences. The unwillingness of us (I’m talking about you and me, friend … and President Hanlon) to push back against such blatant silliness only causes more silliness … and eventually, if not checked by some courageous souls, much more dire consequences.
My suggestion to Dartmouth’s Phil Hanlon is don’t be cowed … do your best to purge your campus of such “diverse” detritus and start emphasizing a new diversity … a diversity of true liberal (small “L”) thought. Encourage rational and studied debate on any subject … but do not pamper the childish confrontations and loopy demands of any hyphenated radicals. It’s pretty easy to tell the difference.

Afterthought: Some might say that all this carping on my part is easy since I do not have to deal with a self-perpetuating and incestuous Board of Trustees who might deny me my next budget request. True, but then, if those in lofty positions are not willing to stand on principle, then their imagined positions are really not that lofty after all.
