Hydroxychloroquine

Because President Trump once touted hyroxychloroquine as a possible early treatment or preventative for Covid-19, the media went on a tear to accuse him of “killing” people with his “junk science.” Many, including myself, thought that his endorsement was the kiss of death for hydroxy. (Had he poo-pooed it, it might have been embraced.) Even the fact that Trump actually used the drug as a prophylactic did not stop the onslaught of scathing media criticism ... it increased it.

OK folks, wipe your gray cells clean and let’s look at “the science.” Yes, I realize that there is science on both sides of this issue, but the article I am about to recommend does try to present fairly both sides of this controversial issue ... from a doctor’s perspective.

Censorship

YouTube took down the video from the two California doctors contending that the continuous lockdown was exactly the wrong strategy to deal with the coronavirus ... see: Freedom of Speech. It seems that they could not allow any opinions that were counter to Dr. Fauci’s dicta.

Now, the Masters of the Universe (Twitter, Google’s YouTube, FaceBook) are once again censorng what they don’t want Americans to see ... this time a Nigerian doctor vehemently attesting that hydroxychloroquinine (HCQ) is an effective Covid treatment ... see: RT Video.

I realize that the Masters of the Universe are private companies and therefore can censor whatever they want. But, it would seem when they have achieved such monopolistic powers over their media highways, that some constraints should be applied to their plenary powers.

And besides, Trump should have used reverse-English ... and disparaged HCQ to begin with ... and it would therefore have become the standard treatment ... possibly saving thousands of lives. So, in a way, these deaths really were the truculent anti-Trump media’s fault in the end.

Political Football

How can a drug like hydroxychloroquine ... with 65 years of safe, widespread and effective use become a political football? Is this just another indication of the irrational, spittle-flecked hatred of Trump? If he recommended aspirin for a headache, would Bayer consequently be forced out of business?

Afterward: I’m a little puzzled that, if this drug was really dangerous, the hateful Dems would encourage Trump to take even more rather than abstaining.

Stimulus Check

Let us assume that sometime soon I get Uncle Sam’s economy stimulus check for $1,200 ... which I didn’t ask for and don’t particularly need. What should I do with it?  Here are some possibilities:

- Buy $100 gift cards at 12 local restaurants to help them stay alive?

- Donate it to the local food bank?

- Put it in my grandkids’ college funds?

- Buy hydrovychloroquine tablets for everyone in the neighborhood?

- Donate it to the Trump re-election campaign?

- Buy 12 round-trip Delta airline tickets to Hawaii?

- Donate to a local pol’s “campaign” in exchange for a cushy no-show state job?

- Fund a gun-rights billboard on the Mass pike?

- Buy a lifetime supply of toilet paper?

- Give it back to the government?

My wife won’t tell me how she is going to spend her check ... lots of Netflix movies for our grandkids to keep them occupied during this long shutdown?

Line of Succession

According to our Constitution and subsequent law, if President Trump were to expire ... say from the China virus, Vice President Pence takes over ... and, If he also bites the bat dust, the Speaker of the House ... in this case, Nancy Pelosi, becomes the most powerful person in the world!

A very unnerving thought! So, I beseech ye Trump and Pence ... please start wearing anti-viral masks ... and begin using hydroxychloroquine prophylactically.
