Our Midget President

Obummer seldom misses an opportunity to show us what a spiteful puerile person he really is. I do know that the word "midget" is now verboten in polite company, but our fearless leader is seldom polite. Why is he such a peewee? Or course, among many other things, it is because he is the first president in American history not to attend the funeral of a sitting Supreme Court justice ... in this case Antonin Scalia ... see: Politico Story.

And this is not the only time that Obummer has shown his infantile partisan contempt for some justices on our highest court ... those justices who don't toe his political line. He had previously embarrassed them as they sat in the front row for his first State of the Union address and petulantly dressed them down publicly for one of their decisions ... see: New York Times Article. What a dwarfish and unpresidential snit! If Obummer were any smaller, he might disappear altogether.

Nose Tweaking

For the second time in two weeks Iran is tweaking the nose of the United States just days before we are scheduled to release $100 billion of its funds that have been been frozen for years. First it shot rockets across the bow of the U.S. aircraft carrier, Harry S. Truman in the Gulf of Hormuz ... see: NBC Story. And then on the eve of Obummer's State of the Union address, this band of militant mullahs took hostage 10 U.S. sailors after their two boats wandered into Iranian-claimed waters in the Persian Gulf ... see: Washington Post Article. And even more, last Fall, Iran tested a ballistic missile in violation of United Nation's sanctions ... see: Reuters Article. All these nose tweaks are conveniently ignored and swept under the carpet so that the so- called nuclear agreement with Iran is not compromised. (An agreement, by the way, Iran has yet to sign.)

President Obama, as predicted, indicated in last night’s State of the Union address that he was going to sign an executive order raising the minimum wage under government contracts to $10.10 per hour from the current $7.25 per hour … a 39.3% increase!  Many pooh-pooh this move as irrelevant since very few employees working on government contracts are making the minimum wage … even though the administration claims the number to be over two million … see: Fox News Story/.

However, what is forgotten in this whole White House ruse is that many unions have contractually established their pay scales based upon the minimum wage … see: Wall Street Journal Article.  So President Obama is surreptitiously throwing many unions a gigantic bone by increasing their members’ wages even when they are earning far above the minimum wage ... figuring most of us naive doofuses will not realizing what is going on.

Cruzin’

How many remember the tune Cruisin’ by Smokey Robinson?  When I try to recall this tune, I keep bringing up Groovin' on a Sunday Afternoon by the Rascals.  Anyhow, there is a new iconoclastic pol on the Washington stage by the name of Ted Cruz, the new Senator from Texas, and he seems to have shifted immediately from neutral into high gear.  He is taking on almost all of the sacred images in Washington … and getting quite a bit of press in the process.  (See: NY Times Story and Breitbart Comments).

One case in point, Senator Cruz had the gall to ask Chuck Hagel for his financial records … suggesting that he might have benefited financially from North Korean largess … see: Breitbart Article.  This brought out the long knives in the Senate as it erupted in righteous indignation.  Even Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe went into high dudgeon over this suggestion.  Cruz responded that we won’t know if this is a fact until Hagel releases these sought-for records … which so far he has refused to do.  To me there is a parallel here to Senator Harry Reid accusing Presidential-aspirant, Mitt Romney, of not paying any taxes and requiring him to disprove this negative by releasing more than two years of his tax returns (see: Business Insider.Story).  I don’t recall Scarborough throwing a hissy fit over this much more serious slander ... in that Reid stated these charges as facts … Cruz is just postulating

But one of Ted Cruz’s better acts was his response to Obama’s State of the Union address.  He sat passively while the rest of the Senate wildly applauded the President’s fibs and pleas for bigger government.  Please click on this link to see and read his reactions to same ... Human Events Video and Story.  It is really really worth it.  Now Senator Cruz, being Hispanic, also creates considerable angst among the Democrats in that he might crack the Latino voting block in the coming years.  The difference between him and Marco Rubio is that he is clearly a street fighter … like Obama.  And although I might like to see a kerfuffle between him and (probable-candidate) Hillary Clinton in 2016, I still believe that Rubio would make a better leader. Maybe we could have a two-pronged Hispanic Republican ticket?

Piranhas

As you who read this blog already know, I like Marco Rubio.  I think he is a decent, intelligent, hard-working Senator from Florida.  I would have loved to have seen Mitt Romney pick him as his running mate.  But the Democrats fear this man like the Black Plague … for they believe that he (being Cuban and speaking fluent Spanish) may begin to fracture their heretofore solid Hispanic voting bloc. This would be a disaster for the Blue-Staters and they know it.  So what to do?  Answer: marshall all your syncophants in the media and pull out all stops to destroy this man.  Use every trick in the left-wing media book, flattery followed by derision, mockery, relentless erudite criticism, snide asides, pained facial expressions, semantic twistings, and sophomoric slams.  This kind of feeding frenzy reminds me of piranhas attacking an innocent animal who might wander into the Amazon river.

And God help this man if he gives these craven media bullies any opening to attack … as Senator Rubio did after the President’s recent State of the Union message … when he stopped his rebuttal remarks to take a swig of water.  This naive gesture has become Rubio’s toe-dipping into the Amazon river and the gang of pathetic media piranhas are in full attack mode.  Maureen Dowd in the New York Times spun her flesh-noshing thusly: 

The ubiquitous 41-year-old [Rubio] — who’s on the cover of Time as “The Republican Savior” — looked as if he needed some saving himself Tuesday night as he delivered the party’s response to the State of the Union address in English (and Spanish). He seemed parched, shaky and sweaty, rubbing his face and at one point lunging off-camera to grab a bottle of water.

A little snarky, no?  But then … this is Maureen Dowd’s misandric style.  Read her whole column here: NY Times Op Ed

But this was just the opening media salvo.  MSNBC and CNN have gone well over the top to ridicule Rubio … including one of a most sickening rants by Al Sharpton I think I have ever seen on a “legimitate” new broadcast.  “Reverend” Al did his best to imitate Jon Stewart’s antics from the Daily Show, but, at best, he came off as a buffoon … see: Daily Caller Posting  Why this man is allowed on national television is beyond my ability to rationalize. (If any of you have not already seen this water-sipping gesture on Rubio’s part, it is at the end of the Daily Caller link.)

Will Senator Rubio recover?  Of course ... with time, particularly if he does not play into these piscine’s fins.  He needs to rise above such bullying and maintain his dignity.  This won’t be easy given his youth and inexperience.  But he should quickly realize that many media people are out to humble and humiliate him and, therefore, treat them accordingly.

Pants on Fire

In his State of the Union address last week The Barry said, "In the last 22 months, businesses have created more than 3 million jobs."  Let us now see if this is factual.  From the Bureau of Labor Statistics own A-1 seasonally adjusted tables (see: CPS Tables and click on the HTML version of the A-1 table under Monthly Household Data) there were 139.9 million people employed in the civilian labor force when Obama took office in January of 2009.  In January of 2010, this same number stood at 139.1 million (down 800 thousand).  And, at the end of December last year, there were 140.8 million employed according to the same table.  This is only an increase of 900 thousand since he took office (while the relevant working-age population grew by 4.8 million) and, up 1.7 million in the last 23 months.  This clearly is "not more than 3 million."

That is ... unless Obama is counting what U.S. companies have hired abroad (a possibility) ... or, even more disturbingly, the fact that U.S. companies may be employing slews of foreign nationals instead of U.S. citizens (see: Numbers USA).  In any case, I have already heard many Obama surrogates quoting this "fact" and I'm sure that the American public already has this hook and worm well down its gullet.

Moral of the story: "Don't mess with the bully pulpit."

Sputnik Moment

Barack Obama, in his recent State of the Union Address trotted out the analogy of the USSR’s placing the Sputnik satellite in orbit in 1957 … and the U.S.’s response where JFK eventually called for placing a man on the moon before 1970. In another annoying bit of wrapping himself in the mantel of other presidential successes, Obama called our current national malaise our “Sputnik moment.” He asked that we, once again, come together as a nation and “invest” in "a level of research and development we haven't seen since the height of the space race" particularly in information technology, biomedicine, and clean-energy technology.

Now, by the word “invest” Obama is clearly talking about more massive government spending … something for which the American public (and China) has shown that it has little stomach. But more chalk-on-the-blackboard upsetting is that Obama had previously cancelled NASA’s Constellation program on which we had already spent nine billion dollars (see Constellation cancelled). This program, initiated by President Bush, was meant to be the follow-on to our space shuttle and place astronauts back on the moon and then on Mars. What is the difference, you ask? Well, placing a man on Mars is a program so huge that only governments can tackle it. Performing research in information technology, biomedicine, and clean-energy technology are all endeavors well within the capabilities of the U.S. private sector.

I suppose a man who believes that it is the government’s role to do almost everything can not make this logical distinction. Just like Jimmy Carter who spent multi-billions of taxpayer dollars on alternative fuels (more money down a rat hole), Obama believes that Washington bureaucrats will be able to take time-out from stacking and stapling papers to solve these “Sputnik moment” issues. Either that or he envisions a government take-over these private-sector industries too … just like he has done with the auto industry, the student loan industry, the home mortgage industry, and his planned take-over of the medical insurance industry.

Can we rather call this bit of rhetorical grandstanding, President Obama’s “sputtering moment?”
