"Dems bleeding moderates" is a crass interpretation of the data. While conservatives are constant since 1992 at 36%, more moderates have become democrats so that the democrats since 1992 have risen from 17% to 25%. It is interesting that the total comes out to 95%.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/201152/conservative-liberal-gap-continues-narrow-tuesday.aspx says
Since Gallup began routinely measuring Americans' political ideology in 1992, conservative identification has varied between 36% and 40%. At the same time, there has been a clear increase in the percentage identifying as politically liberal, from 17% to 25%. This has been accompanied by a corresponding decrease in the percentage identifying as "moderate," from 43% to 34%.

In the chart:
Year Conservative Moderate Liberal
1992 36 43 17
2001 38 40 20
2016 36 34 25

That indicates that liberals have gained. I am not taking a bias... just reading labeled graphs as presented by Gallup.

Fine, as far as it goes. But that was not the point of the headline. WITHIN the Democrat party, another chart shows that moderates have gone from 47% to 41% since 1992
