Nihilism

It seems to me that one of the reasons that the Portland miscreants keep rioting night after night is that they are unsure of exactly what they want to accomplish ... and, if they could put it into coherent words, they would not get unanimous agreement among their fellow anarchists ... and would alienate large blocks of their current flaccid, equally-rudderless political supporters.

Soros-style nihilism seems their only unifying rationale.

Snapped

A white man in his early twenties clearly snapped yesterday ... going into a black church in Charleston, South Carolina last night and shooting and killing at least nine worshipers ... see: Washington Post Article. The suspect, as of this posting, is still at large, therefore the exact motivation for these murders is not clear ... although one must surmise that there is a large racial component to them.

Is this tragedy a tipping point in the seven-year deterioration of race relations in the United States? I surely hope not ... but I can clearly foresee the coming storm of protesters and pundits trying their very best to make it so ...  to include Al Sharpton and maybe even President Obama (if he behaves true to form). In contrast, the national media did very little to inflame people after the Fort Hood massacre ... with a larger number of victims. They know well how to perform their craft.

There must be a lesson to be learned here ... which I seriously doubt will be heeded. And that is that racing baiting for whatever purpose is evil ... and likely to cause great societal dislocation. The radical Muslims can stir the pot enough to get Major Nidal Hasan to attack innocent soldiers at Fort Hood ... just like a backlash to the incidents in Ferguson and Baltimore probably caused a clearly deranged man to kill innocent worshipers in Charleston.

I passionately decry what just occurred in Charleston and my heart bleeds for the victims ... but I also condemn those wild-eyed crazies who would take this tragedy as an opportunity to incite violence as an appropriate response ... and believe me I expect a large parcel of such miscreants.

Balti-less

Both the mayor and police chief of Baltimore, Maryland are black ... but this didn't mitigate the rioting that has occurred in this city after the funeral of Freddie Gray, a black youth who was killed in police custody last week ... see: UK Daily Mai Story. Even the feckless mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, handled similar rioting there better than did the mayor of Baltimore  ... who essentially gave the demonstrators there permission to riot and "space to destroy things." What was she thinking?

And so Baltimore has a black black eye ... and many businesses there will have to think twice about rebuilding and reopening.

The futility of such mayhem escapes me and most civilized people ... but apparently this Freddie Gray tragedy somehow gives license for feral behavior on the part of enough of the city's youths to besmirch this city for years to come. What a pity ...

The only real suggestion that I have is that there are enough cell-phone pictures and news coverage that dozens of rioters and looters can be identified and arrested. The justice system in Baltimore should be swift and tough on these miscreants. If the governance there were so inclined, perhaps ... just perhaps, this might assuage such future criminal behavior.

In the end, justice should be served ... else it will be subverted.

Afterward: There are some reasonable law-abiding parents in Baltimore ... see:ABC News Video. Good for her!

After Afterward: And here is a picture of the good Baltimore citizens lining up to protect their police force:

NFL

The NFL (Not For Lace-undies) has had a rough week. The Ray Rice (a Baltimore Raven's running back) wife-battering scandal along with numerous other female- and children-abuse accusations has embarrassed the National Football League's Commissioner, Roger Goddell, and many of the more reticent team owners ... see Fox Sports Story. Yes, this league is not generally composed of Nancy-boys. It is, in effect, chock full of modern-day gladiators ... trained from their tweens in the more violent aspects of sports combat. And, much as we hate to admit it, most of we fans relish this violence and use it to keep our juices flowing on Sunday afternoons.

For us, in this increasingly sissified country, to imagine that this violent sport will not breed violent individuals is an obvious flight of fancy. We (by way of the TV sponsors) pay these pig-skin gladiators millions of dollars and inject them into the glitzy limelight of modern-day adulation. Really, how can we expect these combatants to be able to turn on their aggressions during game day ... and then be pussycats off the field? Yes, some may be able to live such a bifurcated life, but we really should not be surprised ... and exhibit feigned indignation ... at those who can't.

The effective solution ... either modify this sport to remove its violence ... (flag football ... and lose the fans) ... or possibly outlaw the sport altogether. Keeping the status quo will only result in many, many more of these upsetting brutalities. Therefore, if we choose to keep and pamper our precious NFL gladiators, we should not be high dudgeon when these abhorrent off-the-field incidents occur. Yes, punish any miscreants to the full extent of the law in the courts ... and too the league and team owners involved in cover-ups ... but keep the sport intact.

All you real football fans, let's stop being high-pitched hypocrites.

Afterthought: Even though Joe Scarborough was one of the "high-pitched hypocrites" I was thinking of when I used that above-term, I had to agree with him this AM on MSNBC when he called for the NFL to lose its tax-exempt status. This "trade association" will take in $10.5 billion in tax-free revenue in 2014 ... and its commissioner gets $30 million of this while $6 billion is distributed to the NFL teams ... see:CNN Story. To me, this seems a blatant and undeserved perk ... one that should be rescinded by Congress for the sake of keeping the NFL's head from exploding. Now seems a perfect time to do it.

Beating a Drum

“If you shout a lie long enough and loud enough, it will eventually become a truth” – Thomas Jefferson

Some of my readers accuse me of beating a drum over our President’s multitudinous failures.  Guilty as charged.  But I am but one squeaky little voice trying to contradict stentorian streams of bilious bullsh.t coming out of our government and media.  I realize that this is a fruitless Promethean endeavor, but I cannot let go of this feeling that I must do something, however insignificant, to help our children live in a country that closely resembles that great (yes, exceptional) one in which I was nurtured.

I try not to do this with Lady-Gaga-type hype … nor with flaming prose … but with statistics, studied opinions and references to those who I respect as being good and honorable people.

The thing that upsets me the most about our modern media mouthpieces and political poltroons is that they lie with certain certitude … as though this was the measure of their self worth.  They call it “spinning.”  Thus, they are compelled even to lie about their lying.  If someone like Mitt Romney tells his best and sincere truth about the many dislocations in our current society, he is castigated and made fun of by these same miscreants as though he were the prevaricator.  What did Jack Nicholson once say … “[we] can’t handle the truth?”

That is a very sorry statement about our current out-of-tune national orchestra.

Hippocratic Oath

“Do no harm” … that is the essence of the Hippocratic Oath that all doctors are supposed to live by. In other words, if a patient arrives with a hang-nail, don’t cut off his finger.  Wouldn’t it be nice if there were an equivalent motto that politicians were asked to forswear when they entered the public arena?

Clearly, the current administration and the Pilosi-Reid cabal felt few compunctions about breaking some eggs when they cooked up that atrocious omelet of legislation four years ago ... once proudly called Obamacare. But now is being shamelessly retagged by the mainstream media with its official title “Affordable Care Act.”  In fact, it appears that this bunch of miscreants not only broke a zillion eggs in the process, but also killed the chickens and burned down the farm.

And it is not just the website that is the problem with Obamacare … it is its entire concept and execution (excuse the pun) … see: Breitbart Commentary

Actually I do believe that those bozos responsible might have taken an oath under their breath when they entered public office … the Hypocritic Oath.

The Laws of Physics

Einstein's Notes
The way to make money is to get an information edge.  Apparently some enterprising traders have found a way of making communications travel faster than the speed of light.  Last week the Federal Reserve Bank's Open Market Committee decided not to start the tapering-off of its $85 billion a month of government securities and mortgages purchasing (aka "quantatative easing").  This was an unexpected decision and thus a bond-market moving piece of news. There are supposedly strict rules to keep this information from leaking out and giving traders an edge.  It is quite apparent that these rules had somehow been circumvented ... and not for the first time.  For the details see: USA Today Story.

The reason it is clear that this breach occurred was that, if it weren't, the communications between New York and Chicago must have traveled faster than the speed of light.  Such "front trading" totaled hundreds of millions of dollars ... reaping millions of dollars of profits for these unknown miscreants. It doesn't seem to me that it would be too difficult to get to the bottom of who these cheaters were ... if the powers-to-be in Washington really wanted to do so.  That is, of course, pretty much depends upon the size of the political donations that have been received from said cheaters ... or the degree of interlocking directorships that exists between the Fed and those trading parties who know how to defy the laws of physics.
