NFL

The National Football League (NFL) got none of my TV eyeball-time on Sunday ... nor is it likely to coax me back anytime soon. This is because this Congress-created monopoly has done nothing to nip in the bud the grotesque Black Lives Matter protests during the playing of our national anthem and our honored remembrances of 9/11. Four Miami Dolphin players "took a knee"  on Sunday and one Kansas City Chief raised his fist during our Francis Scott Key musical paean. (Their names are unimportant.) Yes I know these babinzos have every right to protest against their real and imagined slights by our nation ... independent of the millions of dollars they get annually to run around a grassy field. But I also have the same right to call them uneducated boobs and refuse to frequent their advertisers or appreciate the fans who grease their palms.

The NFL is one of the "circus" parts of the strategy that governments use to keep their people pacified, viz, "bread and circus." But I am growing out of such pampering. I've got other things I can do with my Sundays. And I have other reasons ... because of his looking the other way during Colin Kaepernick's protests, his shoddy treatment of the Patriot's Tom Brady, his disallowing the Dallas Cowboys to wear memorial insignias for their slain Dallas policemen, his denial of a player to memorialize 9/11 on his football cleats (see: Breitbart Story) and his generally poor administrative talents ... NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not loved by many thinking former football fans ... including myself.

So I will wage my puny little protest and eschew this "circus" entertainment that I have in the past so much enjoyed ... until such time as Goodell is gone and the NFL wises up. Until then NFL, for me, stands for nudnicks, flakes and losers.

NFL

The NFL (Not For Lace-undies) has had a rough week. The Ray Rice (a Baltimore Raven's running back) wife-battering scandal along with numerous other female- and children-abuse accusations has embarrassed the National Football League's Commissioner, Roger Goddell, and many of the more reticent team owners ... see Fox Sports Story. Yes, this league is not generally composed of Nancy-boys. It is, in effect, chock full of modern-day gladiators ... trained from their tweens in the more violent aspects of sports combat. And, much as we hate to admit it, most of we fans relish this violence and use it to keep our juices flowing on Sunday afternoons.

For us, in this increasingly sissified country, to imagine that this violent sport will not breed violent individuals is an obvious flight of fancy. We (by way of the TV sponsors) pay these pig-skin gladiators millions of dollars and inject them into the glitzy limelight of modern-day adulation. Really, how can we expect these combatants to be able to turn on their aggressions during game day ... and then be pussycats off the field? Yes, some may be able to live such a bifurcated life, but we really should not be surprised ... and exhibit feigned indignation ... at those who can't.

The effective solution ... either modify this sport to remove its violence ... (flag football ... and lose the fans) ... or possibly outlaw the sport altogether. Keeping the status quo will only result in many, many more of these upsetting brutalities. Therefore, if we choose to keep and pamper our precious NFL gladiators, we should not be high dudgeon when these abhorrent off-the-field incidents occur. Yes, punish any miscreants to the full extent of the law in the courts ... and too the league and team owners involved in cover-ups ... but keep the sport intact.

All you real football fans, let's stop being high-pitched hypocrites.

Afterthought: Even though Joe Scarborough was one of the "high-pitched hypocrites" I was thinking of when I used that above-term, I had to agree with him this AM on MSNBC when he called for the NFL to lose its tax-exempt status. This "trade association" will take in $10.5 billion in tax-free revenue in 2014 ... and its commissioner gets $30 million of this while $6 billion is distributed to the NFL teams ... see:CNN Story. To me, this seems a blatant and undeserved perk ... one that should be rescinded by Congress for the sake of keeping the NFL's head from exploding. Now seems a perfect time to do it.

Interesting Statistic

Despite their huge annual salaries and after an average of  over three years of playing professional football, 78% of all National Football League (NFL) players either declare for personal bankruptcy or are in serious financial distress within two years of retiring from this sport ... see: Sports Illustrated Reference. Sad, sad, sad.

Missed Far-Left

In keeping with the current trend of censoring free speech, the National Football League (NFL) now intends to instituted a 15-yard penalty for a player’s on-field use of the n-word … see: NY Daily News Story. Now as ludicrous as such a penalty sounds, I still anticipate numerous other issues with implementing this expected rule-book entry.  They are:

-        Is this the only taunting that will incur a yardage walk-off? What about “honkie,” or “Nancy,” or “cracker,” or “gringo,” or “Tonto,” or even “you one-percenter you?”

-        How will this penalty be indicated to the stands?  Will the referee make a hand signal like an “N” in American Sign Language?

-        Will the referee then call out the offending player’s number and make the “shame on you” finger swipe pointing to him?

-        Already many black players have indicated that this word is part of their everyday vernacular and they refuse to be silenced.  Are then only the white players to be penalized for this utterance?

-        What if a player literally calls another player a “you n-word you?” Is this just a 5-yard penalty?

I think the NFL, albeit with noble intentions, may have kicked the football far left on this scoring attempt …
