Obvious Truth

NY Go. Andrew Cuomo

The most dangerous politicians are those who are likable ... with good communication skills ... yet have not even a modicum of common sense. — Anon.

Common Sense

These days common sense seems to have fled from the spittle-flecked social-warrior mob ... and is hiding in a Conservative briar patch. In many ways, America was at its greatest when common sense was allowed to prevail. President Trump may not be an intellectual giant or a Lincolnesque orator, but he does have a powerful lot of common sense.

Faculties

It's a little bit ironic tha "faculties" means groups of teachers or professors who, depressingly, too often seem to lack the other meaning (common sense) for this word. -- Anon.

Common Sense

If it is common sense to understand that an excellent carpenter may not be even a good bricklayer, then why do we often assume that an awarded thespian knows anything about how to run our country?

Common Sense

Paul Mirengoff of the Powerline blog makes a good common-sense case for stopping all immigration from certain Muslim countries which seem to breed terrorists once they live in our country for a while. He argues that no amount of pre-immigration vetting is going to root out the bad guys ... see: Powerline Blog. Sayfullo Saipov was the immigrant from Uzbekistan who slipped through the supposed "rigorous two-year" vetting process (according to the lefty pols and media) and went on to slaughter eight and injure eleven with a rental truck in New York City this past Halloween. (Perhaps, if the two-year vetters had noted that his first name translates into "sword of Allah", it might have helped.)

Yes, our bubble-headed left ... who believe that "diversity" and "inclusion" are the panaceas to all our nation's problems ... have allowed ideology to cloud their common sense. When the United States was building the Panama Canal, we realized that mosquitoes, which caused yellow fever and malaria, were a major hinderance to this project. So, we reduced the population of the mosquitoes by eliminating and oiling their breeding grounds.

This is, what we used to call common sense. And common sense dictates that, if we want to reduce terrorism in our country, we should stop all Muslims from immigrating from those countries that seem to spawn such miscreants. Just as all misquitoes don't carry yellow fever or malaria, not all Muslims are potential terrorists. But, not being able to filter out the bad ones, the next best solution would be to un-diversify and un-include those Muslims who might become our killers. It is just that simple ... use that sense which causes us to come in out of the rain.

No, I am not calling Muslims (from these suspected countries) "mosquitoes" (an expected knee-jerk response from the left). I am saying that, unless and until we can find a way to keep such Muslims from turning on us with the sword of Allah, we should not invite them into our homeland in any numbers. Someday, perhaps, after there is a reformation within this "religion of peace," then this stricture can change. But encouraging people who might want to murder or enslave us does not seem too common-sensical.

Truth

"Truth is beauty, and beauty truth ..." -- Keats

Truth today is an endangered species. It has been driven to the hinterlands by the poaching politicians and the medacious media. Lying has become a performance art ... to be practiced and admired on national television and in the press. The more difficult the position to lie one's way out of ... the higher the judges' score. We are now experiencing an Olympics of lying ... with specializations evolving ... sprinters, heavy lifters, long-distance liars ... people who even are lying about lying.

Lying is so pervasive that, when a talking head or a politician tells the truth, it is like a bolt from the blue. And truth is often held hostage in our ivory towers. We are so unused to the truth that it often seems like a lie. "This truth cannot be true! Why it even reeks of common sense ... and wasn't common sense banished by presidential decree seven years ago?" Truth is so shining bright that it hurts one's eyes ... and we can't have our people becoming blind. Lies are much darker and easier to view and understand. Therefore, lies are good and the truth is bad!

You all know where this is heading ...

Common Sense

Where has it all our common sense gone? Dozens of movie starlets put their nude photos up in the Internet cloud and then are incensed when a hacker finds them and Tweets them to the world ... see: Variety Story. (Although I suspect some of them secretly deem this breach a career enhancer.) And why would the state of California let many of  its rivers and streams run unchecked out to sea when it is suffering a severe drought ... see: San Jose Mercury News Story. Snail darters be damned! And why would millions of federal taxpayer dollars be squandered on finding out why lesbians tend toward obesity while gay men don't ... see: Washington Times Story? What's the benefit of this silly spending?

Last night at a party I got into an extended discussion with a very nice lady about global warming. I explained how carbon dioxide makes up an infinitesimal percentage of our atmosphere yet is the fundamental building block of all life. I told her how, long before man started using fossils fuels, that an ice sheet was a mile thick where we were sitting ... and yet the Earth warmed up without Al Gore's help. I explained that 600 million years ago carbon dioxide levels were ten times what they are today, yet the Earth survived. And then I said that the EPA declaring CO2 a pollutant was insane and that these new proposed regulations were quite likely to destroy our economy without affecting the world's climate. Her response was, "Shouldn't we do it anyway ... just to be safe?" AARG!  Where is the common sense?

And notice here, not once have I even mentioned Obama's sense of the uncommon ...

Common Sense

“Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.”  This was Gilbert and Sullivan’s commentary on the English’s, particularly the English aristocracy’s lack of common sense. It seems that this British malady is permeating American’s society these days.  And this is not just a Liberal failing … there are plenty of Conservatives who come up with loony ideas.  It seems to this observer that there is a universal penchant in this country to accept any change as being “good” … and the status quo as “evil.”

There are numerous examples in the news ... too numerous … but one, to me, is a blatant case-in-point.  There is popular rage to permeate our armed forces at every level with females … even to the most demanding of combat roles (see: Fox News Story).  I won’t go into the detailed pros and cons of this transmogrification because most cons seem obvious and, excuse the expression, commonsensical.  But there has been one consequence of this trendy tropism that is also rearing its ugly head in our armed services … and that is the growth of sexual assaults there (see: CBS News Story).

Now people who can tie their shoes should realize that mixing the sexes in stressful and/or opportunistic and/or cramped situations will probably lead to unhappy results.  I know that this shouldn’t be the case and that there needs to be extraordinary efforts to eradicate such sexual harassment.  But these extraordinary efforts on the part of senior military officers do detract … and often, significantly … from what is their primary responsibility … to kill the enemy and break things.  Thus, this social experimentation clearly makes our military a less effective fighting force … a very dangerous situation.

To me, this is common sense.
