Take Aways

The above is an interesting presentation by a Harvard lecturer … given in 2018 before the current crisis. But she makes a number of interesting points about Russia and Ukraine. Please watch it all, including the Q&A.

I offer the following takeaways from this talk:

- After the Warsaw Pact disintegrated and many members joined NATO, Russia requested membership … which the West declined … basically saying it was still our enemy.

- Russia, because  of a history of being invaded (e.g.s, France, Germany), is always chary about unfriendlies on its border. This fear was intensified by Bill Clinton’s bombing of Serbia, a mini Russia, in order to achieve Kosovo independence.

- The fact that building a bridge from the Crimea was a financial burden for Russia tells me that Putin and the oligarchs must be bleeding Russia of financial resources … leaving little for the necessities of state.

- I was surprised to hear that Putin thought that Hillary, if elected, would eventually go to war with Russia. I suspect this may have come from Hillary’s actions in Libya … including the killing on Gaddafi who Putin had to feel was his doppelgänger.

- Also interesting was the fact that Eastern Ukraine was a liability no matter who controlled it.

- Calling the Trump sons “idiots” indicated to me her elitist attitude … which was not deserving of her profession.

So, Pilgrim, I hope that your eyes are a little more open in regard what is now happening in Ukraine. This is still a snippet of the story … but is certainly more than we knew before.
