Facebook has taken a dramatic turn in its corporate direction … investing possibly billions into the world of the make believe … cryptocurrencies, electronic fungible tokens, virtual reality, computer games and other ephemera … that which lives entirely within that electronic cage called the computer. And Facebook has even changed its name to “Meta” to emphasize the degree of its commitment to this metaverse.
Those of us who grew up in the real, non-virtual world find this transformation a little strange and unlikely to succeed. But for that sizable population of our youth who spend many hours a day with eyeballs glued to a computer screen … this move makes perfect sense.
We shall see …
