Perhaps, just perhaps it is because Donald Trump is so reviled by so many Americans that this becomes his motivation to fix so many of our nation’s problems ... such as calling out China ... and draining the swamp that is Washington, DC?

To your final point, I wonder how it would be if Trump were a smooth-talking persuasive leader reaching out to all Americans but still doing all his actions to "fix our problems" in finance, EPA, interior, education, military, international trade and agreements. How is China tamed? Where is the swamp draining?
China is not tamed, but its threat has been identified. As they say problems can’t be fixed until they are identified. And, so far as the swamp is concerned, our last smooth-talking prexy was a major proponent of the swamp.
