I think I said that Trump "seems" normal when compared to the increasingly frenetic rhetoric on the left ... something akin to your comment, but worse.

My shit detector is tingling. I am trying to figure out what the author of the oped wants to accomplish.
It feels like an intentional distraction, perhaps an attempt to soften the sound of the second shoe dropping.The timing of it, just when Woodward's book is coming out, just before midterm elections,
(what's gonna happen in October?) and the assertion that there are adults in the room
who are in effect running things.
Sounds squishy to me.
