Pilgrim, many economists are concerned by the amount of debt that the world has accumulated … mostly due to very low interest rates over recent years. The following are a number of tables showing where this public and private debt poses the greatest risk. Study them all!
Public debt to GDP: World Economist data
Private debt to GDP: Trading Economics data
Change in Debt by category: Visual Capitalist data
Public debt per capita: Damond Dara
Draw your own conclusions … but, for me, as interest rates rise higher and higher, these debt bombs might start going off.
Of course, the only solution, other than default, is inflation.
Afterward: Inflation can also help private companies which are over-leveraged with longer-term fixed-rate debt.
