Black Teeth

During my visit to the dentist the other day, he related the following:

Years ago in Japan, when the son of wealthy parents got married, they would paint the bride’s teeth with a silver solution. This bound with nascent decay and stopped it … making the woman capable of a longer working life.

However, there was a downside to this unique dental hygiene — it turned the new wife’s teeth black … which soon became an indication of family wealth.

Soooo … poor Japanese women took to painting their teeth black … pretending to be wealthy. … a rather strange fad.

But no stranger than some societal memes in this country … say rap “music” and drag-queen shows for children?
