Anytime either party in a debate refuses to engage and rebut an argument with facts and logic … but instead sinks to personal slurs and innuendo … it is no longer a debate … and should be dismissed as such. — Fletcher
But but, what about Trump, you say. He constantly berated his opponents in “debates.” True enough … yes, but these things billed as debates were … and are just political pissing contests. And Trump’s big asset was his ability to “punch back” … a rare commodity among conservatives. Yes, he was often unfair … but so were his opponents. He is still hated on the left for this talent … with a white-hot passion. “You on the right are not allowed to do what we do! “
But this is also why he is loved by so many of the rank and file righties … but eschewed by the RINOs. “This is not gentlemanly!” Well, Mitt Romney was a gentlemanly doormat … and Republicans suddenly decided that winning was worth seeing Pelosi’s bulging forehead veins.
And besides, Trump loved his country … made a lot more common sense … and could deliver the goods.

Is Xi Covering Mao?
I have previously surmised that the possible Achilles heel of the current Chinese Communist regime, led by president-for-life Xi Jinping, will probably be a flawed decision … driven home by Xi’s autocratiic ego … much like Mao’s Great Leap Forward that set China back for decades.
This flawed decision might be Xi’s crackdown on China’s burgeoning technology companies. First, he sat on AliBaba’s (Amazon equivalent) Jack Ma, just the richest man in China (next to Xi?) and forced him underground for 3 months. Next in the barrel might be Tencent, China’s internet gaming, social media and AI company … see: CNN Article
If these and other government crackdowns are avatars of a possible future nationalization of China’s private enterprises (Xi is a Communist after all), it clearly will stifle innovation … that extraordinary benefit that the toe-in-the-water capitalism has brought to China.
If this is on Xi’s agenda, I will sleep a lot better at night … here’s hoping!

My granddaughter has tested positive for Covid … twice … and will likely be tested one or two more times before she presents as negative. Will she be listed in our official pandemic statistics as multiple cases … since I doubt that many states have the time or methodology for cross-checking for duplicate incidents?

Pandemic Pragmatism
My granddaughter, unvaccinated because she is under the age of 12, had a slight fever one day after a trip down south. A few days later in order to go to summer camp, she took a Covid test. She tested positive. And now again in a follow-up test.
Her unvaccinated good friend also had a slight fever at the same time. She recently tested negative for Covid.
My under-12 granddaughter’s twin sister, having no symptoms, also tested negative … also just recently a second negative one.
My vaccinated daughter, the mother of the twins has not shown any symptoms and has very recently tested negative … twice.
My fully-vaccinated wife, who has been suffering all the symptoms of Covid … like a bad Summer cold … has strangely also tested negative.
I, also fully vaccinated, have shown no symptoms and therefore have not been tested.
This is a complicated decision tree. What is the correct course of action? Take the regimented approach and quarantine everyone for two weeks? Or, use common sense and quarantine the only sick one for two weeks after he first slight fever? (Why not 12 days … or 16 days?)

Dodging a Bullet
Many years ago I was asked to drive my wealthy step-father from Tryon, North Carolina to Duke University Hospital in Durha, NC for shock treatment to relieve his severe depression. Without hesitation, I flew down to Tryon (actually Greenville, SC to be precise) and performed this family duty for my ailing mother.
After the successful trip returning him to Tryon, a now less depressed step-father confessed to me that all the way up to Durham, he had to resist the urge to open the car door and leap out of our speeding car.
In retrospect, I clearly dodged a bullet then … because I am reasonably certain that I would have come under suspicion … particularly from his non-step children … for somehow causing his death … because of the benefits that would have accrued to me as a consequence of his pre-deceasing my mother.
Funny how life works.
