A Perfect Anecdote

I am frequently accused of using anecdotal evidence to make a point. Ah, but those accusing we, who wish to have voters' identification validated, have found the ultimate anecdote to press their case against supposed "voter suppression." I doubt that a more sorrowful case of someone fighting the system to get a picture ID -- so that she could be validated -- could be found than this 107-year old black woman from Washington, DC  ... see: Yahoo Story.

Even though this woman, Virginia McLaunn, doesn't need this ID to vote in DC, she did need it to board airplanes to go to media interviews around the country. So perhaps this is really a story about airline-travel suppression. I am also curious about how this woman got into the White House to do a sit down and photo op with President Obummer prior to this exploding anecdote. Wouldn't she also need a photo ID for this visit? And I am also equally curious about her method of buying any schnapps that she might consume ... as she would also need a photo ID for that too.

Oh well, no logic is too strained or anecdote too tiny when liberals are trying to generate media outrage over one of their pet causes.

Cherry Blossoms

I had a thought this morning about global warming. How has the date for cherry tree bloomings and the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC changed over the years? This might be a proxy for what is happening to the temperature at least in the Eastern United States. I Googled this idea and found the following chart (see: EPA Source Data for reference) of these dates over the last 94 years. As one can see here first hand, there seems little change in this indicator date except for a up-spike in 1988 and 1998 ... and, in fact, the 2014 and 2015 dates are quite late relative to much of the past:

For you Kool Aid drinkers I have also included a reference to a Boston University/Japanese study of cherry tree blossoming times around Kyoto, Japan which purports to show the opposite effect over a much longer period of time. However, it does concede that warming caused by urbanization trends may be an influence on this data. It also states that the dates for the Washington, DC festival have moved earlier by about a week ... which, as we can see above, is clearly not the case. So it might be that this study is also Chicken-Little biased (ala Mann's "hockey stick" which has been fully debunked by the actual data) ... see: Boston University PDF Reference.

Hollywood Navel Gazing

It seems that President Obama is spending more and more time among his friends in Hollywood … and they, in turn, seek out his company to justify their importance … see: Variety Story. I think that Rush Limbaugh once wrote that Washington, DC is Hollywood for ugly people. So it stands to reason that these two centers of power and influence like to sit in one big drug- and alcohol-enhanced circle gazing at their navels.

In this frenzy of self-congratulations, Obama reinforces their cockamamie ideas and they empty their wallets and purses for his political war chest … all very very cozy and incestuous. Hollywood believes that it is the paragon of tolerance and diversity while doing its level best to ostracize any poor schlub who doesn’t follow its political orthodoxy (hello Mel Gibson) … echoing the black lists of the 1940’s and 1950’s … only from the obverse side. In fact, Hollywood is so wrapped up in the current political correctness that it most often chooses to ignore opportunities to make money from movies that would appeal to a broader conservative audience … all very strange and illogical.

President Obama’s rhetoric castigates the one-percenters as he preaches to a tent-full of this very demographic … the one percent of the one-percenters. Do these court favorites then get to feel freed of this stigma because their President laughs and jokes with them?  I think so. And does the President get his jollies hobnobbing with all these botoxed bimbos and bozos? Clearly.

These days I find it next to impossible to find any movie of merit coming out of all this Hollywood navel gazing. But then that’s just me.

Clown Shortage

There is a growing dearth of clowns in the United States according to the Clowns of America International’s President Glen Kohiberger … dropping by about a third since 2004 … see:  New York Daily News Story. Apparently there have been problems recruiting enthusiastic younger people into this Pagliacci profession to replace the older ones who are dying off.

I think we all know the perfect place for this organization to place their next recruitment ads … Washington, DC.

Afterward: Apparently Powerline had the same idea ... see: Powerline Blog.
