In that era a man dressed as a woman probably would've been tossed overboard at the portobello departure. Our forebearers had no tolerance for perversion invading their polite society.
Actually, as I recall, there was a man who dressed as a woman and tried to get in a Titanic lifeboat. He was discovered and died in shame.
