Why is it that members of Congress insist that the U.S. must be loved by as many countries as possible ... no matter the cost ... yet don’t seem to care that they themselves aren’t loved by the American people?

Duh. We all live on the same planet. Unless you conquer and subjugate the people of other nations, you need to get their cooperation, respect and yes, affection for what you stand for.
Ask yourself: why is the free world rejoicing since Jan 20th?
It’s your money, kind sir, that your representatives are using to buy other nations’ love ... and, often, some political grease in return. As one wag said: “Foreign aid is when poor people in rich countries give money to rich people in poor countries.” What’s that old song, “Money can’t buy me love?” You might be right in that the president you claim was not loved ... was, at least, respected. ... even feared in some cases. That’s enough for me.
