My grandfather had a term for cotton candy. it was “gap and get nothing.” This aphorism might be applied to the “active user” statistic supplied by Twitter to its advertisers … advertisers who pay Twitter good money based on these numbers.
Twitter has stated in government filings that the percentage of bots in its active user population is less than 5%. But Elon Musk has suspended his offer to purchase this company until he gets a better handle on what this real number is. Speculation in the business media is that the real number might be north of 90%! Wow!
Imagine what a Twitter advertiser must feel about this possible swindle! American lawyers should be salivating over the potential litigation hurricane that is in the offering just over this company … let alone if this grift has become customary among the other social media ilk?
Afterward: And Musk’s takeover price for Twitter may end up quite a bit lower?
