Today’s Poser

When will electric cars compete in the famous auto races like Le Mans, the Daytona 500 or the Indianapolis 500? Is this only a range issue? There are shorter races ... even drag races.

Formula E was instituted in 2011 and runs a global calendar of races. It is different such that competing head to head with Formula 1 is not practical.... yet. See https://www.forbes.com/sites/gauravsharma/2019/07/29/formula-e-versus-formula-1-microcosm-of-the-tussle-for-mobilitys-future/#1c985cbd3dfa. The interested manufacturers started out in Europe, notably France, Italy, and Germany. The Formula E inform those companies about how to improve their electric systems for consumer vehicles. To your point, FE does not compete in F1 races because they are still too different with F1 racers much faster. Interesting that Tesla has yet join the FE and might join this year.
