Money Ball

Just caught a glimpse of our modern Sunday gladiators ... mask-less, in close physical contact, with fake crowd noises, cardboard fans ... fighting for the highest point total in what once was America’s national sport ... professional football.

But, let’s face it kind readers, these athletic actors are mostly not virtue signaling to show how mattering they are for anyone’s life. They are performing to earn enough money for their team owners so that they can continue to pay them their humongous salaries.

Yes, in its heyday this sport did get one’s juices flowing, but our current pandemic and political dogfight is doing enough of that to satisfy my shriveling senses.

So, if I can’t and won’t watch this modern-day equivalent of Christians being fed to the lions, I think I’ll learn to to be happy with The Great British Bake Off. But it might be nice if they would mount a little flour-flinging mayhem from the losers ... or throw a babka to the winner.
