Stunt?

Vice President Pence walked out of the NFL game between the Colts and the 49ers yesterday when members of the San Francisco team took a knee during the national anthem. The left is screaming that this was a Trump-inspired "stunt" and cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands for Pence's trip to and from Indianapolis.

Was it a stunt? Probably, but no more so than many of Obama's gymnastics during his two terms. And, besides, sometimes it takes this type of visual to get across to the American people just how our current culture is setting us up for a Thelma and Louise moment.

I'm boycotting the NFL again this year. How about you?

Butter Side Down

Just like movie stars, making millions of dollars for their realistic reciting of the creative works of others, eventually believe that they have become these make-believe heros and can behave accordingly ... a similar mania is sweeping the sports world. Now a number of mostly black football and basketball players believe that injecting politics into the sports arena is their God-given and constitutional right. They exhibit their displeasure with America and its supposed injustices by sitting or taking a knee during the playing of the Stars Spangled Banner at the begining of their contests.

Of course such disloyal demonstrations are their right ... but it is also the right of President Trump to call them out for disrespecting the country that has so lavishly rewarded them for their physical talents. Yes, they have supporters among our increasingly looney left. But there are also legions of citizens who view such antics as the equivalent of telling them to f-off ... that they are racists or jingoistic or whatever. The question then becomes -- are there enough of lefty snowflakes and conservative jock sniffers who will continue watching the performance talents of these children to justify their continued lofty salaries?

My guess is no. And that these anthem dissenters may eventually find that their toast has fallen on the floor butter side down.

Afterward: There are far more productive ways for athletes to protest perceived evil ... live moral lifes as examples to our youth, support blind justice, donate their time and money to the education and betterment of their race ... and finally, proudly display their love of country.

Free Pass

For you attentive readers, you know that I have been boycotting watching NFL football games because of Roger Goodell's not disciplining those players either sitting or "taking a knee" during the playing of our National Anthem. We are about halfway through the season and I have yet to relent on this pledge ... as have also legions of other principled football fans ... as viewership has been seriously diminished ... see: CBS Local News Story.

Now however both Bill Belichick and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots have publicly endorsed Donald Trump for president. Consequentially, this development has given me a free pass once again to watch Patriot games ... but still none of the other NFL games. So this Sunday I will watch Brady throw a deflated football to Gronk as he humbles the Seattle Seahawks and their gaggle of kneelers. I might even have a beer and some pretzels ...

NFL

The National Football League (NFL) got none of my TV eyeball-time on Sunday ... nor is it likely to coax me back anytime soon. This is because this Congress-created monopoly has done nothing to nip in the bud the grotesque Black Lives Matter protests during the playing of our national anthem and our honored remembrances of 9/11. Four Miami Dolphin players "took a knee"  on Sunday and one Kansas City Chief raised his fist during our Francis Scott Key musical paean. (Their names are unimportant.) Yes I know these babinzos have every right to protest against their real and imagined slights by our nation ... independent of the millions of dollars they get annually to run around a grassy field. But I also have the same right to call them uneducated boobs and refuse to frequent their advertisers or appreciate the fans who grease their palms.

The NFL is one of the "circus" parts of the strategy that governments use to keep their people pacified, viz, "bread and circus." But I am growing out of such pampering. I've got other things I can do with my Sundays. And I have other reasons ... because of his looking the other way during Colin Kaepernick's protests, his shoddy treatment of the Patriot's Tom Brady, his disallowing the Dallas Cowboys to wear memorial insignias for their slain Dallas policemen, his denial of a player to memorialize 9/11 on his football cleats (see: Breitbart Story) and his generally poor administrative talents ... NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not loved by many thinking former football fans ... including myself.

So I will wage my puny little protest and eschew this "circus" entertainment that I have in the past so much enjoyed ... until such time as Goodell is gone and the NFL wises up. Until then NFL, for me, stands for nudnicks, flakes and losers.
