Vaccination Priorities

On CNN this morning, the Smerconish show posed a viewer question about coronavirus vaccinations ... specifically should the United States follow the recommendation of the World Health Organization ... which is: “The first priority should be to vaccinate some people in all countries rather than all people in some countries.”(Expectedly, WHO’s recommendation overwhelmingly won the liberal viewer vote.)

But, kind readers, we are not the Smerconish audience. So we can make up our own minds. The Trump administration attitude is that, if America pays for and develops the vaccine, then we should be first in line. They liken this to how oxygen masks are utilized in an airplane emergency ... first adults put them on, then children and the infirmed are helped on by these masked adults.

Smerconish offered an alternate view — it’s as though only the first-class passengers get the oxygen masks while those in coach don’t. However, the WHO way ... the globalists way ... would allocate many vaccine doses to millions, perhaps hundreds of millions (or even billions) of people ahead of most Americans. As Smerconish put it ... a healthcare worker in Italy should get vaccinated ahead of a teenage American boy. But, do we wish all the healthcare workers worldwide to be vaccinated before we feel secure in opening our colleges? This may take many months ... perhaps even years!

I have a sneaking suspicion that Bill Gates, Nancy Pelosi, President Trump, Bernie Sanders. France’s Macron, Germany’s Merkel, everyone in WHO and many, many more poobahs will get a Covid-19 shot long before I do. In fact, even if the vaccine is available by November, realistically the Potts clan will wait well into 2021 until we will get it ... even much longer if the Smerconish audience has its total way. (I wonder how many of these do-gooders will pull rank and end up cutting in line? My guess is quite a few.)

I like Trump’s idea best ... but maybe setting aside a few million doses for the rest of the world ... and even then there will be huge domestic allocation problems.

Last thought: if China. Russia and other countries have vaccines first, how much of the rest of the world have they committed to vaccinating?

Afterthought: Given an American vaccine ... if we allocate a few million doses to the rest of the world, perhaps we should specify that they be given only to front-line workers. (Maybe get WHO to insure that it happens this way? ... just kidding.)

Mosquito Cost

Bill Gates believes that a pandemic caused by a mosquito-borne illness is a greater threat than global warfare ... see: Daily Mail Article. Perhaps so. Now Bill Gates is either the richest man in the world or close to it with assets nearing $100 billion. So this pandemic threat offers his charitable instincts a perfect opportunity to go big.

Consider the following. Mosquitoes can be eliminated by first breeding them in captivity, sterilizing them with irradiation and then releasing them back into the wild to hook up to no end. Now, of course, this is not cheap. Let's assume that $10 million could fund such a program in a targeted locale ... and that one could identify a thousand such targets in the tropical and semi-tropical regions of the world. OK, maybe you would have to repeat things to eliminate the three sigma stragglers. So, for 20 billion dollars, Bill Gates could, if the environmentalists didn't rise up to object,  wipe out mosquitoes from the face of the Earth ... and, at the same time eliminate Zika, malaria, yellow fever and a host of other pestilences.

Wouldn't that be a memorable use of just a small portion of  the Gates fortune? He and Melinda might still have $80 billion left to live on or donate to things like the Clinton Foundation.

Suggestion Box

A few things that could make our screwed-up world a might sight better:

- All the ransoms that need to be paid to unlock Windows computers locked by ransomware should be paid by ... Bill Gates.

- To save the planet, soft drink makers should replace their CO2 bubbles with nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

- President Macron of France (39) should honor his 64 year-old wife as "Cougar of the Year".

- To get rid of her persistant cough, Hillary Clinton should stop drinking so much chardonnay.

- If the US can hack North Korea's missile launches, we should direct the next one back onto Kim Jong Un's viewing site.

- Celebrities who are famous for being famous should be boycotted by the media

- Trump should fess up about his Russia collusion: 'Yes, I was hoping to get them to help us in our war against jihadism ...'

- Julian Assange should be given the US Medal of Freedom ... then placed in front of a firing squad.

- Student tuition loans, in the US and Britain, should only be paid directly to the colleges and not to the students.

A Country for [Rich] Old Men

Once upon a time very wealthy individuals used their largess to endow libraries, concert halls and museums. Not so anymore.

It seems now that rich old men don't want to leave our world to itself. George Soros is suspected of being behind the massive immigration of Syrians into Europe ... see: Breitbart Story ... and Warren Buffet believes that that our supreme liar Hillary Clinton (or even Bernie Sanders) would make a crackerjack president ... see: Business Insider Story. And, of course there are Harry Reid's bugbears, the Koch brothers ... who want conservative principles to prevail once again in this country. Of course, there are many other people of wealth who believe that this money gives them license to run things politically.

And even our younger plutocrats are fighting the existing social order. Bill Gates strangely now believes that the only solution to our world's problems is Socialism ... see: The U.K. Independent ... and everyone knows how multi-billionaire Donald Trump is grabbing the headlines with his thoughts for national change.

How come amassing vast piles of money in business suggests to these folks that all their ideas deserve to be worshiped?.

More Things I Don’t Get

Why:
-        Didn’t Bill Gates build fail-safe security into his software?

-        Do playoff series most often last for the full contingent of games?

-        Is rap music so popular?

-        Can't Vladimir Putin afford a shirt?

-        Won’t Muslim Mosques perform gay weddings?

-        Does some artwork often sell for eight and nine figures?

-        Does the Catholic Church shield child molesters?

-        Won’t the American government protect its borders?

-        Do fools fall in love?

-        Does magnetism manifest itself as flux lines?

-        Is college so God-awful expensive (given the outcomes)?

20-20

I found this very interesting posting on “reddit” by a Yokocrono, “What can we reasonably expect to see by the year 2020?” and with the following predictions (mostly scientific):

He/she has supplied the appropriate links in case you want to investigate further.  My suspicions is that this sage is a "he" (HIV prediction), a Brit (spelling of "personalised"), of Japanese ethnicity or a Beatles fan (his moniker), a computer geek (all the predictions about cyber-stats), an environmentalist (Aral Sea prediction), and an admirer of Bill Gates (polio eradication prediction).

Now if I may, I would like to add the following predictions to this list (sans links):
- Replacement human organs will be manufactured on a massive scale
- Global -warming mania will have disappeared
- The world will have experienced an extended period of double-digit inflation
- China will have annexed Mongolia
- A barrel of oil will be below $50; gold below $1000 per oz.
- Because of changing oil geo-economics, Islamist terrorism will abate
- Google Inc. will be broken up
- Obamacare will not bend down the rising cost of heathcare in the U.S.
- Putin will still run the Russian Federation
- Hillary Clinton will not be President of the United States

I hope I am around in 2020 to see if I'm right.
