The default opinion of much of our main-stream media and many Americans is that our government is invariably in the right. This is exactly what our forefathers didn’t want and tried to construct a government that could not exact this upon its citizens.

Can you honestly state that the spittle-flecked MAGA crowd reflects the expectations of the Forefathers? Yah, me neither. Election interference, personal attacks on anyone who will not bend-the-knee to Trump, phony conspiracy theories - these are not what the Forefathers envisioned.
Your premise that Americans regard the government as "invariably right" is wrong. Newspaper OP-EDs are full of opposition opinion. Talking heads on TV spend hours second-guessing government actions. Get your head out of the sand and smell the coffee.
If you believe that our government and much of the media lustily support the Bill of Rights, then ti is you who has his head in the spittle-flecked coffee.
