Politicians with appealing personalities have unfortunately learned that they need not be right to get elected. For many of them, honesty and a stalwart character seem also to be in short supply.
Afterward: Is this why a politician with a sandpaper personality might be incented to make better decisions and implement better policies?

The afterword suggests that because he does not have a pleasing personality, Trump is incented to make "better" decisions. The causation seems nebulous.
Wouldn't his proven "honesty and stalwart character" be enough to make him stand apart from the others?
His making many right decisions is the plus. But just because he has a sandpaper personality doesn’t imply that he is Bubba’s doppelgänger insofar as character is concerned. That I didn’t mean to iinply.
