Most of our problems in the Middle East have to do with our inserting ourselves in the middle of the centuries-long conflict between the Shia and Sunni Muslims. Our overturning of Saddam Hussein, a Sunni, made the Iraqi Shia believe we were on their side ... and Obama’s sucking up to Iran (Shia) reinforced this notion.
But Trump’s dumping of the Iran nuclear deal seemed to indicate we favored the Sunnis. However, the ISIS caliphate was Sunni-based ... and Hillary, with Obama’s permission, seemed to favor these butchers.Then Trump destroyed this caliphate ... with some help from Iran.
And the Shia-Sunni blood feud is also being replicated elsewhere throughout the Middle East ... Saudi Arabia. Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Oman, Turkey, Yemen, Pakistan, Egypt, Gaza ... all but Pakistan predominately Sunni ... where America has difficult problems ... making things even more complex.
And so it goes, back and forth between these Muslim sects (and other offspring sub-sects) like a ping pong match on an Islam table covered in blood. Unfortunately, our troops represent the ping pong ball ... batted back and forth at the cost of U.S. soldiers’ lives and limbs.

What??! The Saudis are the Wahabist hardline culture that distributed the bin Laden family across America that Dubya allowed to escape America after Saudi nationals flew planes into the Twin Trade Towers. Fast forward 16 years: Trump pranced around in Saudi Arabia with a sword and bowed to get a necklace and then conjured wonderfulness by group imposition of hands on a lighted globe. Saudis give us lots of beautiful money for our beautiful weapons that give us lots of beautiful jobs that, well, what the hey, make it all worth it. We gave the Iranians back their frozen assets, the Saudis give us their beautiful Benjamins.
Those Iran assets were frozen because they took over our embassy under Carter. These assets should have been used to compensate America for its embassy and the 52 diplomats who spent many months under false arrest. And we should thank our drillers that we no longer need to kowtow to the Kingdom. Trump is moving to extricate us from this Middle East morass ... but, unlike Obama, he seems to be succeeding ... particularly with Iran. By the bye, B.O. also gave Iran $1,8 billion in various hard currencies in exchange for 5 hostages. Not very smart.
And unlike his Dad, GWB’s reputation is unlikely to improve over time.
