Like Father, Like Son

Donald Trump and his Dad, Fred
If you want to understand what makes Donald Trump tick, you probably should look to his upbringing. The New York Times has just produced a "random piece of journalism" that gives its reader a good glimpse into how Donald Trump became the interesting personality that we see on the stump today. Take a few minutes to read this bio piece. You should then have a clearer notion of who this man is ... and who he might be as president ... see: New York Times Story.

Good article. Trump is a remarkable man. But, like many other remarkable people, he has few qualities for POTUS.

The top fifty self-made billionaires are all remarkable... but not a one of them would IMHO be appropriate as POTUS. Imagine: Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Mark Zuckerberg, any of the Waltons, Carl Icahn, even Sheldon Adelson, George Soros, or either of the Koch Brothers as POTUS.

Their toolkits for political persuasion are superPACS and Citizens United. Isn't that enough?

You may be right ... but then how does community organizing prepare one ... or running a haberdashery ... or a peanut farming ... or civil engineering ... or gigoloing? The one thing that Trump can definitely show is getting things done.

Obama: Lawyer, teaching constitutional law.
Truman: Military, judge, US Senator, US VP.
Carter: State senator, Governor.
Hoover: Humanitarian work, Sec'y of Commerce
Kennedy??: US Senator

We all start somewhere. There is typically a progression toward higher office. It is hard to lament the loss of a strict constitutional interpreter like Scalia while supporting a man with no constitutional depth or experience in government or consensus building.

I'd vote for Bill Gates.
