Feel-Good Voting

If Lena Dunham is your guru, then I am confident you voted today for "D" candidates. This frumpy feminist has condensed five feel-good reasons for voting today into a flighty flyer for the feeble-minded. Basically these five reasons are centered on emotional issues and completely ignore the serious policy problems that are now plaguing our nation. If you can suffer vacuous vituperation and lady-parts logic, then take a few minutes to read the following inanities that try to eviscerate some of the more outstanding Republican Senate candidates … see: Women Are Watching.

This wonky woman is clearly a silly symptom of our looney-tunes times.

You are a curmudgeon. Three of her five points are not specific to any party: it feels good to vote, it is one part of democracy in which each human has an equal say, and it is a gateway to getting involved. Granted the other two were slanted but, for America's sake, register and vote no matter what part of your body motivates you.

I do agree that one should register ... as long as one is eligible ... and yes I am a curmudgeon.

1) One fact that came out of the Coakley-Baker debates is the clarification that the citizenship requirement only applies to Federal elections. Eligibility to register/vote in local elections is defined by the local statutes and often does not specify citizenship but mere "residency."
2) I am skeptical about the assertion that "each voter has an equal say." The pre-election machinations that determine who we get to vote for is pretty much driven by Big Money contributors. They make sure that we really don't have much of a choice; and they don't care who wins the popular vote.
