Fact or Fiction?

The conundrum of the looming age of artificial intelligence, since it is based in the existing bodyof knowledge, is teaching it to discern fact from fiction.

And since there is no methodology to do so in our lives in general … other than the scientific method … then no computer program should be able to improve on this iterative process that can best approximate “fact”.

Saying “approximate” is critical for Galileo thought he knew what gravity was until his notion was improved upon by Newton … an older incomplete fact morphing into a newer fact … only to be later updated by Einstein.

Can our current large-language-model A.I. tell us what the next improvement to our understanding of what gravity might be  … like it’s the 5th dimension … a scientific discovery that is certain to occur at some future date? I kinda doubt it.

So, Pilgrim, temper your wild expectations about A.I. … it only synthesizes “facts” from what we already know .. some (most?) of which will be eventually updated. Maybe we should call it Synthetic Intelligence?

STAND UP FOR PURE FACTS!

You have to allow for Kellyanne Conway's ‘alternative facts’. Are the factual facts or fictional facts?

I wasn’t talking politics … there it is impossible to differentiate.
