Prejudice means to pre-judge. To me, it does not prohibit one from making generalizations … for instance: Blacks are good athletes, the Irish are good story tellers, Muslims dislike Jews, etc. But, making generalizations is often conflated with prejudice.
The issue of prejudice arises when one applies the generalization that one makes about a population of N people … good or bad … and applies it to the N+1 person in that same group.
Unfortunately, it is the rare person who can stay true to this distinction… and not slip in to treating the N+1 person according to the generalization made from the N population.
This, of course, results in a prejudice against making generalizations. … the price of stupidity.
STAND UP AGAINST PREJUDICE!
